The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address and patent
dates, as well as the caliber marking at the breech. The standard Marlin safety
marking is on top of the receiver, and the serial number is marked on the bottom
of the receiver. The model designation is marked on the upper tang. It is fitted
with a Lyman beaded blade front sight, elevation adjustable “Rocky Mountain”
notch rear sight, and a peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is mounted
with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent plus, retains 99% plus of the original blue finish, 99% plus
of the vibrant original case colors, and 98% plus of the original nitre blue on the
loading gate. The wood is also excellent plus with some scattered minor storage
dings. Mechanically excellent. One would search a very long time to find an
antique example of Marlin’s Model 1894 lever action rifle in comparable,
near new condition!

The top of the special order barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and
caliber marking at the breech, while the smokeless steel marking is on the upper left
flat. The Marlin Safety marking is on top of the receiver and the serial number is on the
bottom. The upper tang has the model marking and is drilled and tapped for a peep
sight with filler screws in place. It is fitted with a German silver “Rocky Mountain” blade
front sight, a D.W. King blank filler in the rear sight dovetail, and a rare and desirable L.L.
Hepburn patent, top-mounted receiver peep sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm
and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% of the original blue finish on the barrel, 98% refinished
blue on the magazine tube, 95% of the vibrant original case colors on the receiver,
slightly muted on other components, and 90% of the original nitre blue on the loading
gate with a few patches of lightly cleaned surface pitting on the right of the barrel and
some scattered light handling marks. The wood is fine with light crazing on most of the
forearm and a few scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent. An impressive example
of Marlin’s Model 1895 in the desirable .45-70 Government!
