Excellent First Year Production San Francisco
Shipped Antique Etched Panel Colt Sheriff’s
Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver
with Attractive Ivory Grip and Factory Letter
- Serial no. 2144, 38 Long Colt cal., 4 1/2 inch round bbl.,
nickel finish, ivory grips. Manufactured in 1877, the first year
of production. The accompanying factory letter states this
revolver was shipped on July 28, 1877, to Liddle & Kaeding in
San Francisco, California, in .38 caliber, with the barrel length
not listed, nickel finish, and hard rubber grips. This was a 25
gun shipment. The shipment date of this revolver was only three
days after the San Francisco riot of 1877; a riot waged against
Chinese immigrants in San Francisco, California, by the city’s
majority Irish population from the evening of July 23 through
the night of July 25, 1877. It features the scarce and desirable 4
1/2 inch ejectorless Sheriff’s Model barrel with the sought after
acid etched panel with “COLT D.A. 38” on the left side, and is
fitted with a period ivory grip. The top of the barrel is marked
with the two-line Hartford address. The left of the frame has
the three-line patent date markings. “38 CAL” marked on the
left of the trigger guard. Matching visible serial numbers
on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap, with an
unnumbered cylinder. What appears to be assembly number
“46” marked on the loading gate. It is fitted with a blade front sight and groove top strap rear sight.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% bright original nickel plated finish with a few small spots of flaking
and scratches, and a distinct etched panel. Grip is very fine, with tight fitment, a few minor handling
marks, and highly attractive color and grain. Mechanically excellent. A high condition first year
production Colt Model 1877 Sheriff’s Model Lightning revolver!

Antique Acid Etched Panel Colt
Model 1877 Thunderer Double
Action Revolver with Attractive
Checkered Ivory Grip and Factory
Letter - Serial no. 35271, 41 Long Colt cal.,
6 inch round bbl., nickel finish, checkered
ivory grips. The accompanying factory letter
states this revolver was shipped on January
30, 1882, to Simmons Hardware Company in
St. Louis, Missouri, the gateway to the West, in
.41 caliber, with a 6 inch barrel, nickel finish, and hard rubber grips. This was a 5 gun
shipment. The revolver features the sought after acid etched panel with “COLT D.A. 41”
on the left side of the barrel, and is fitted with a period checkered ivory grip. Two-line
Hartford address marked on top of the barrel. The left of the frame has the three-line
patent date markings. “41 CAL” marked on the left of the trigger guard. Matching
visible serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard,
and back strap. It is fitted with a blade front sight
and groove top strap rear sight.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 70% original nickel
plated finish with smooth gray patina on the
balance, and a defined etched panel. Grip is also
very fine, with attractive natural aged patina,
tight fitment, and crisp checkering. Mechanically functions.

the left and the address below. The side labels indicate the cartridges are specifically adapted for .41
Long Colt double action revolvers.
CONDITION: Very good. The box is opened but is full. It has mild age and storage related wear.

Exceptional Colt Sheriff’s Model 1878 Double
Action Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no.
10079, 45 Long Colt cal., 4 inch round bbl., nickel
finish, black hard rubber grips. This desirable Colt
“Sheriff’s Model” 1878 DA Revolver was manufactured in
1883. The included factory letter confirms its configuration,
and lists the type of stock as not listed. It shipped to
Simmons Hardware Company, St. Louis, Missouri February
2, 1883 in a shipment of 10 guns. The revolver has a four inch
barrel and is not equipped with an ejector rod. The revolver has a
factory nickel plated finish with blued trigger and hammer top. The black
two piece hard rubber bird’s head grips are checkered and have the Rampant
Colt trademark in an oval. The top of the barrel is marked: “COLT’S PT. F.A.
MFG. Co / HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.” in two lines. “45 CAL” is stamped on the left
front triggerguard bow. The serial number is located on the front edge of
the gripstrap. The rear face of the cylinder is stamped with the partial serial
number “079” and “P”. The rear of the loading gate is numbered “319”.
CONDITION: Excellent overall with 95% of the untouched original nickel-
plated finish remaining. There are several spots of very minor pitting on the
cylinder flutes and edges. The nickel plating is flaking slightly on the forward
edges of the frame. The trigger and hammer retain 75% of the original niter
blue finish. Traces of blue finish remain on screw heads. The grips have
faded slightly but remain in excellent condition. All markings are sharp.
Mechanically excellent.
