The Paterson revolvers and
rifles were Samuel Colt’s first revolving
firearms and helped make his name a byword for
revolvers. Though the Patent Arms Manufacturing
Company was short lived, the subsequent successful use of the early Colt
“revolving pistols” by men like Samuel Walker and the Texas Rangers in combat with
the Apache established Colt’s revolvers as the premier handguns for fighting men and
ultimately led to the rebirth of Colt’s firearms business in 1847. His company flourished
in his own lifetime and continued to innovate long thereafter creating numerous iconic
firearms used by the men and women of the U.S. military as well as police officers and
citizens across the country.
