Steel barrels with a single steel bead sight
on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH.” as well as bearing
two flourishes of floral scroll engraving near the breech, single band of engraving at either breech, London nitro proofs, and
1 1/8 oz (2 1/2 inch) chambers with automatic ejectors. The casehardened sidelock action displays masterfully executed
extensive classic English rose and scroll engraving with “JOHN DICKSON & SON” marked on either lockplate and “DICKSON/
EDINBURGH” on the underside. Although unsigned, it is very likely that this gun was engraved by Jack Sumner, as he did
much of the engraving for Dickson. The engraving extends to the toplever, both tangs, and the triggerguard. The gun features
double triggers and an automatic tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered
with engraved fittings, including the Anson button release, and straight grip stock with a multi-point checkered bare butt. Includes
a leather bound takedown case with added Dickson trade label and “RAG” marked on lid. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter
nine inches from the breech both proved at 12 (.729 inches) and both measured at .738 inches; choke constriction .006/.005 inches; minimum wall thickness .022/.022 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 14 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very Fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 98% plus blue finish with some plum patina on the triggerguard, 80% case colors with some fading to an attractive grey coloration, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the replacement stock and forend. The case is very fine with minor wear. Mechanically excellent.
