Rare U.S. World War II Singer Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. S800260, 45 ACP
cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, brown plastic checkered grips. This is a rare example of an authentic World War II pistol
manufactured by the Singer Manufacturing Company under the Ordnance Educational Order No. W-ORD-396. Singer completed the Educational Order in December 1941. Most of the 500 Singer Model 1911A1 pistols were apparently issued to the U.S. Army Air Corps. The pistol has the original wide spur hammer with borderless checkering and checkered thumb safety, slide stop, trigger and main spring housing. The brown plastic, checkered, grips are the early pattern Keyes Fibre without external reinforcing rings but with interior ribs and mold markings. The left side of the pistol slide is roll-stamped with the Singer name and address: “S. MFG.CO./ELIZABETH, N.J., U.S.A.” in two lines just ahead of the slide serrations. The top of the slide is stamped with a “P” proofmark that is oriented toward the
left side of the slide. The right side of the frame is stamped: “UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No S800260” in two lines behind the behind the slide stop hole and “M 1911 A1 U.S.ARMY” in a single line in front of it.
The left side of the frame is stamped with the “JKC” initials of Col. John K. Clement, the Executive officer of the New York Ordnance District.
A “P” proofmark is stamped on the left side of the frame immediately above the magazine release. The blued barrel is unmarked except
for a “P” proofmark on the left side of the lug. The pistol has a late production, “C-R” marked Colt magazine.
CONDITION: Very good. The flat area of the slide and frame are basically cold blued with traces of original blue visible on the protected area of the forward slide. There are traces of pitting on
the muzzle end of the slide and forward portion of the frame. The slide and frame markings show some polishing but are still clear
and distinct. The barrel retains about half of the original blue finish. The top of the barrel chamber has some scattered age discoloration. The replacement grips and grip screws are in fine overall condition with moderate handling wear. Mechanically excellent. Singer Model 1911A1 Pistols are the most desirable of all Model 1911A1 Pistols and are typically found only in the most advanced Model 1911/Model 1911A1 collections. This is a solid representative example of a rare and highly desirable Singer Model 1911A1 Pistol.
Estimate: 25,000 - 40,000
