LOT 524 Factory Engraved William Evans Boxlock Double Barrel Ejector Shotgun - Serial no. 6259, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “WILLIAM EVANS. FROM PURDEY’S. 63 PALL MALL. St JAMES’S. LONDON” along with a flourish of scroll at the breech, engraved bands at either breech, London proofs, and 1 1/8 oz. (2 1/2 inch) chambers with ejectors. The casehardened boxlock action displays bouquet & scroll style engraving
along with “WILLIAM EVANS./FROM PURDEY’S/LONDON.” on either side and features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and tang mounted
automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and straight wrist stock with teardrop carved flats, blank initial oval, and a red rubber recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at “12” (.729 inches) and measured .737/.735 inches; choke constriction .007/.016
inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.028 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; cast-off, weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Very good, retaining 70% original blue finish with fading on the barrels ahead of the breeches and a few small scattered dings and dents and 30% original case colors mostly in the protected areas with the balance a fine grey patina. The wood is also very good with a few light pressure marks and scratches and mostly sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

Factory Engraved Holland & Holland 16 Gauge 1878 Patent Climax Safety Hammerless Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 7271, 16 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a single steel bead on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON” and “WINNERS OF ALL THE ‘FIELD’/ RIFLE TRIALS. LONDON. 1883”. The barrels are marked sleeved on either flat and show Birmingham reproofs for 2 3/4 inch
chambers with single extractor. The casehardened Climax Safety Hammerless
sidelock action displays extensive floral scroll engraving surrounding “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” on
either side and extending to the top lever, both tangs, and the trigger guard. The gun features gas checked firing pins, double triggers, and automatic tang mounted safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”.
The locks each have a crystal cocking indicator, gold washed hammers, and each is serial numbered
internally and engraved “PATENT SAFETY”. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, including the Deeley latch release, and straight grip stock with blank gold inscription oval and horn buttplate. Included with the gun is documentation
from Holland & Holland listing the original configuration of the gun as well as it being shot and regulated on May 5th, 1884, and completed for Sewallis Shirley, 10th Earl Ferrers; a picture of him is also included. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 16.9mm (.665 inches) and both measured at .669 inches; choke constriction .011/.029 inches; minimum wall thickness .034/.037 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 2 oz. CONDITION: Very fine as refurbished, retaining 99% blue on the sleeved barrels, an attractive polished bright coloration to the action and locks, some polished pitting, and light handling evidence. The left side of the forend is chipped; otherwise, the wood with a few light storage and handling marks and sharp checkering. The left lockplate is slightly proud, otherwise mechanically excellent. Factory Engraved John Blanch & Son Back action Sidelock Double Barrel Ejector Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 5566, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa the 1890s. Unfortunately, all exact records were lost during the Second World War to a German bombing raid. Blued steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth solid rib which is marked with the Blanch address, 1998 dated London reproofs and 2 3/4 inch chambers. The casehardened Thomas Perkes’ patent action displays beautiful scroll engraving surrounding “J. BLANCH & SON” banners on either plate with engraving extending to the tangs and trigger guard. The gun features double triggers and tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, extensively checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, including the Blanch & Sons Improved Snap Bolt, and straight grip stock with checkered bare butt. Includes a brass cornered leather bound takedown case with Bland & Son label. Stock measurements: 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 99% of the professionally reapplied blue finish, attractive silver patina to the action, softened barrel address, small dent in the right barrel, crack on the trigger plate behind the rear trigger, light handling marks, and sharp checkering to the replacement stock. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500

Factory Engraved Cogswell & Harrison Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 8396, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1879 per page 105 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Blued steel barrels with single bead sight on the smooth solid rib which is marked for Cogswell & Harrison, light engraving at the breech, replacement steel barrels utilizing the original Damascus steel breech most recently reproofed for nitro in London in 1978, 2 3/4 inch chambers, and improved cylinder/modified chokes. Extensive scroll engraving on the back action. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and red rubber recoil pad. Includes a factory leather bound takedown case, nickel oiler, and snap caps. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 11/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 11 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 97% reapplied blue finish, attractive silver patina to the action and locks, light handling evidence, and overall sharp recut checkering on the wood. The case is good with moderate wear. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
