Game Scene Engraved J. M. Marlin Ballard Single
Shot Schuetzen Rifle - Serial no. 8058, 45 cal.,
28 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut stock. Blued barrel with globe front sight and two leaf folding rear sight. The casehardened action
displays highly attractive floral scroll engraving surrounding a pair of oval panel game scenes consisting on an elk on the left side and
a bear on the right side both in hilly scenes. The rifle features an ornate pistol grip lever/triggerguard, tang mounted adjustable peep sight, and removable folding palm rest. Nicely figured Schnabel tip forend and pistol grip stock with large dished cheekpiece and nickel plated Swiss buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 98% blue and casehardened finishes with light handing evidence and a few tiny areas of spotting. The wood is also very fine with a few light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Game Scene Engraved J. M. Marlin/Joseph Muenier Ballard Single Shot Schuetzen Rifle with Scope - Serial no. 11427, 32 cal., 30 inch part octagon bbl., blue/nickel/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrel without sights, scope blocks for the mounted Stevens single post scope, and “MEUNIER” marked on the top flat for rifle builder Joseph Muenier of Milwaukee, WI. The casehardened action displays beautiful scrollwork with oval panel game scenes on either side consisting of a buck in a field on the left and a running buck on the right. The rifle features a pistol grip lever, double set triggers, and a nickel plated forend cap with screw in palm rest. Nicely figure and multi-point checkered short forend and pistol grip stock with large cheekpiece and nickel plated Swiss buttplate. CONDITION: Very good, showing a mostly even brown patina on the blued surfaces with some areas of light oxidation, some rubs in the nickel finish on the forend cap and buttplate, attractive silver/ grey patina on the action and lever with traces of case colors in the protected areas. The wood is also very good with a small crack at the left of the wrist and mostly sharp checkering. The scope has hazy optic. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 7,000

The Marlin Firearms Co./ New Haven, Conn., U.S.A.” On the right side of the painting is the signature of artist Philip R. Goodwin. Mounted in a wooden frame. Frame measures 20 3/4 inches x 31 inches. CONDITION: Excellent with some creasing throughout and a small spot of peeling on the right side. Colors remain vivid. Provenance: The George F. Gamble Collection. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
