Winchester Deluxe Model
1895 Lever Action Rifle with Factory
Letter - Serial no. 20991, 30 ARMY cal., 28 inch
round bbl., blue finish, walnut checkered stock. This is an very
fine example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1895 lever action rifle that was manufactured in 1899. The factory letter lists this rifle as having
a fancy checkered walnut stock and forearm with a shotgun type “rubber” buttplate and .30 caliber chambering when it was received in the warehouse on June 1, 1899, and shipped the next day. It has the standard two line Winchester factory address and patent dates on the left side of the receiver. The barrel has the standard two-line “NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER” markings on the left side of the barrel and “30 U.S.” on top at the breech. It is fitted with
a pinned silver blade front sight with a two-leaf rear sight and the side of the receiver is fitted with a non-factory Williams target sight. The upper tang has the two-line Winchester Model 1895 marking, and the lower tang has the serial number. It is fitted with a deluxe fancy straight grip walnut stock and forend. Both are factory checkered per the noted factory letter. The forearm is fitted with the factory ebony insert, and the stock has the factory shotgun style steel buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine with 85% plus of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with some thinning on the upper area of the barrel with the cocking lever showing more wear and blue loss from actual use. The fancy/deluxe stock and forend are both in very fine condition showing nice original checkering overall with only minor handling marks on the sides. Both also exhibit nice fancy/deluxe figured walnut. Mechanically excellent.
