U.S. Navy Contract Winchester-Lee Model 1895 Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet - Serial no. 6019, 6 mm cal., 28 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c.1896-1898 as part of the first contract run for the United States Navy. The Winchester-Lee was a very advanced weapon for the era, with a rapidly manipulatable cam-driven bolt and a high velocity small bore cartridge with a very flat trajectory. Blade front and ladder rear sights, with “-U.S.N.-/[anchor]/No 6019/-N.C.T.-” on the receiver ring and the two-line New Haven address/patent marks on the left side of the receiver. Smooth pistol grip stock with sling swivels and a smooth buttplate. An unmarked knife bayonet is included, 11 3/4 inches overall with an 8 1/4 inch blade, bright fittings, smooth wood grips, with a leather and steel sheath. CONDITION: Very good, with 30% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, scattered spotting, mild handling marks and bright wear on the muzzle and high edges. The
stock is fair, with a number of dents and scuffs overall. The bayonet is fine, with spotting on the blade and hardware, and mild dings and stains on the grips. The sheath is fine with some scuffing on the leather. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
LOT 1284 Fine U.S. Springfield Chaffee-Reece Model 1882 Magazine Bolt Action Trials Rifle - NSN, 45-70 Government cal., 28 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. These rifles are based on designs by General J. N. Reece (often misspelled Reese) and Reuben Chaffee, and approved for production and field use by the Ordnance Department in 1882 for testing alongside the Lee and Hotchkiss bolt action magazine rifles. Only 753 were manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1884, making this model one of the rarest manufactured by the armory. The rifles were sold as surplus after trials. Many were damaged and simply sold as scrap. Boxed script “SWP/1884” inspection cartouche stamped on the left of the butt. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with some light muzzle wear from bayonet mounting, traces of original case colors remaining on the receiver and bolt with mostly a smooth silver gray patina, some patches of light freckling, and sharp markings and edges in the metal. Stock is very fine, with defined edges, a re-glued crack behind the receiver, some scattered light scratches
and dings, and a crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250

Wood is also excellent with attractive rich original oil finish, some light handling marks, an exceptionally crisp cartouche and exceptionally defined edges overall. Mechanically excellent. Exceptional U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet - Serial no. 261622, 30 ARMY (30-40) cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1900. Blade front and folding ladder rear sight, standard markings on the oil-quenched receiver, blue finished barrel and barrel bands, nitre blue extractor, and bright bolt with knurled cocking piece. Smooth straight grip stock with grasping grooves, “Y” and circled script “P” proof stamped behind the trigger guard, boxed “JSA/1900” inspection cartouche stamped on the left of the wrist, and a smooth, blue steel buttplate. Includes “1900” dated M1892 bayonet with metal scabbard, Rock Island Arsenal brown leather sling, three-
piece cleaning rod and oiler in buttstock. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% original blue and oil-quenched casehardened finishes with a bright bolt, few small patches of minor freckling, and sharp edges and markings in the metal. Stock is also excellent with attractive original raised grain and rich oil finish, defined edges, a few light handling marks, crisp grasping grooves and stampings. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is also excellent overall. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750

Very Fine U.S. Springfield Model 1899 Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Carbine - Serial no. 345850, 30 ARMY (30-40) cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The serial number correctly falls into the carbine serial number range (222609-362256). It features a blade front sight in a raised mount, elevation and windage adjustable folding ladder rear sight graduated 1-5 on the “C” marked base and 1-23 on the “C” marked ladder. Standard left side receiver markings, smooth straight wrist half stock marked with a boxed script “JSA/1901” inspection cartouche, single barrel band, and curved toe steel buttplate with a trapdoor compartment containing a three-piece cleaning rod and oiler.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% original blue finish, and 60% original oil-quenched casehardened finish on the receiver. Stock is also very fine with defined edges, some light scratches and handling marks, crisp grasping grooves and stampings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Exceptional Springfield U.S. Army Model 1871 Rolling Block Rifle with Bayonet - NSN, 50-70 U.S. Govt cal., 36 inch round bbl., bright/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Approximately 10,000 U.S. Army Rolling Block rifles were manufactured c. 1871-1872 by Springfield Armory under a royalty agreement with E. Remington & Sons. “MODEL 1871” marked on the left of the receiver and an eagle and shield over “U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872” on the right. The upper tang is marked with the two-line Remington patent date markings. Equipped with a blade/bayonet lug front sight and 1,000 yard folding ladder rear sight. Full length stock with two barrel bands and an end cap, an oval script “ESA” (Erskine S. Allin) cartouche
