Incredible Oversized 2 Bore Falling Block Dangerous Game Rifle - NSN, 2 Bore cal., 25 7/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This massive single barrel stopping rifle would be a match for any animal on the planet with its ludicrously large 2 bore chambering. The 2 bore was a huge cartridge developed in the days of black powder for quickly dispatching, say, an angry elephant
or cape buffalo. The loading for these cartridges varies, but sources indicate that it may have been as large as a 3,500 grain projectile over 700 grains of powder propelling it to nearly 1,500 feet per second, giving it a total of, a truly staggering, 17,500 foot pounds of energy! This example is built with a ramped white beaded blade front sight, front sling stud, and a matted rear quarter rib with an unnotched fixed sight. The falling block action is blued and bears no maker’s marks, and it features a tang mounted safety switch. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend and pistol grip stock with blued steel buttplate, shadowline cheekpiece, rear sling stud, and rubber recoil pad. The rifle weighs in at a whopping 25 lbs.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 97% original blue finish with a scratch on the left of the action, minor handling evidence, a few blemishes in the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 12,000 - 18,000
