Outstanding Finest Known U.S. Army Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver with Holster and Accessories - Serial no. 78466, 36 cal., 7 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. The Colt Model 1851 Navy
was Samuel Colt’s most popular service revolver in the 19th century with 252,348 manufactured and was widely issued to Union soldiers during the Civil War as well as privately purchased by soldiers and others and then widely used in the “Wild West” in the 1860s and 1870s by men like Wild Bill Hickok. It helped solidify Colt’s handguns as the go-to for the U.S. military, a relationship that continued on through the late 19th century with the Single Action Army, Model 1878, and Army & Navy revolvers and through much of the 20th century with the Model 1917 revolvers and Model 1911 and Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistols.
