   LOT 1159
Desirable Four Screw Frame Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver with Very Scarce Matching Number Factory Shoulder Stock - Serial no. 94447, 36 cal., 7 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened/ silver finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1860. This is an example of a Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver with a “four-screw” frame and shoulder stock which attaches to the extended screws on the sides of the frame, cuts in the recoil shield, and a milled notch on the heel. The stock is walnut with silver plated brass mountings. The lower tang and buttplate are numbered to the revolver. When these “stocked revolvers” first came out, there were very few repeating long guns, so a revolver with a shoulder stock that could be used as a repeating carbine was certainly an interesting concept, but they never really caught on, and original shoulder stocks for Colt percussion revolvers are scarce, especially with their original revolver. The barrel is fitted with a dovetailed blade front sight rather than a typical cone front sight which again allowed the revolver to be used more like a short barreled rifle. The barrel is marked “-ADDRESS COL COLT LONDON-” on top and has a “2” on the left side of the barrel lug, the left side of the frame is marked

“COLTS/PATENT,” and the cylinder is roll engraved with the Naval Battle of Campeche. The revolver does not have London proof or view marks. Matching serial numbers are marked on the loading lever, barrel, wedge, arbor, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and the stock hardware. CONDITION: Very good plus with 80% original silver plating on the grip frame, traces of original case colors, silver-gray patina and some light pitting on the balance, and general mild overall wear. The grip is fine and has some rub wear from mounting the shoulder stock, mild edge wear, and some chips on the right. Mechanically fine. The shoulder stock is very fine and has 95% plus of the original silver plating, most of the niter blue on the screws and fittings, strong original glossy finish on the wood, and mild dings and scratches. Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
