Naval Aviation Test Site at Travemuende - Measuring 22
inches in total height and 25 inches in total width, the display consists of a bronze eagle, roughly 11 1/2 inches tall with a 25 inch wingspan perched on a 10 1/2 inch tall base, with a section of rough, unpolished rock serving as the eagle’s perch
on a 12 inch by 13 3/4 inch plinth with cut and polished sides, bearing a brass plaque marked “Marine-Seeflugzeug Erprobungsstelle/ TRAVEMUNDE”,
flanked with an
anchor on the left
and a combined set of
wings and propeller blades
with a swastika in the center
on the right. The “Eprobungsstelle”
(literally “testing site”, or E-Stelle for short) were part of the post-Weimar Republic German rearmament program, where the Luftwaffe would test the weapons and equipment they would later take into the field for World War II. Located on the Priwall peninsula in the Luebeck-Travemuende region, the Travemuende site was originally established during the Weimar era for seaplane development and commercial aviation, before becoming part of the Luftwaffe’s operations as “E-Stelle See”, where it continued it’s
emphasis on waterborne aviation in a military context.
CONDITION: Fine overall, with minor handling marks and a
mixed patina on the plaque.
Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000
during World War I for the Imperial German Navy, with the distinctive 6 inch barrel and
2-position notch rear sight. Dated “1917” on the front sight base, left receiver rail, and on top of the chamber,
with the “DWM” monogram on the front toggle link, crown firing proofs on the barrel, extension and breech block,
and the “(crown)/M” Navy proof twice on the extension and once on the barrel. “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” marked
upper safety area and extractor, with straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and springs, checkered walnut grips marked with matching last two digits of the serial number inside, and all of the remaining visible serial numbers are matching besides the correct nickel-finished magazine with walnut base, decorated with concentric circles on the sides and “(crown)/M” and “7016” marked on the wood bottom. “GERMANY” marked on the underside of the barrel, a commercial mark added upon being sold stateside in the post-World War I era. Includes a rare Imperial German Navy pattern brown
leather flap holster marked “JOH. HUBER/SATTLEREI/MUNCHEN” between the loops. A seldom encountered accessory for the 1914
Naval Luger as they were issued in this manner without shoulder straps. Also includes a cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 90% plus original blue finish with some light edge wear on the sideplate, some light handling marks, light wear at the muzzle, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. 75% original straw remains on the small components. Grips are very fine with light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included holster is fine with cracking at the toe, folds, and some light edge wear. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,000

Desirable 1937 Dated Luftwaffe Contract Krieghoff P.08 Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 7706, 9 mm
Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, checkered brown plastic grips. Manufactured in 1937, this is one of approximately 2,500
Lugers manufactured by Krieghoff that year for the German Luftwaffe, just prior to World War II. These pistols fall within the 7300 to 10000 serial number range and were part of the first contract for
10,000 pistols. This example has the “1937” chamber date and was produced fairly late in that year, with the toggle bearing the C-2 type “H(anchor)K/KRIEGHOFF/SUHL” marking. The right side of the chamber has three Luftwaffe acceptance/test proofs while the left has the full serial number “7706” (factory error double stamped) which is repeated on the front of the frame. The matching last two digits of the serial number are marked on the
underside of the toggles, left of the breech block (factory error overstruck on both toggles and breech block), back side of the side plate, safety, trigger, takedown lever, firing pin and firing pin retainer. Luftwaffe proofs are repeated on the barrel,
frame, barrel extension, breech block and various small parts. The “GESICHERT” safety marking is correct. It is fitted with serrated blade front and notch rear sights and checkered brown plastic grips. The magazine is an earlier production Krieghoff proofed aluminum bottom style numbered “2590”.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus original blue finish with minor edge wear. 70% original straw colors remain on the small parts. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering and minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
