Very Fine Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 High Wall Schuetzen Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 86916, 32-40 cal., 29 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, deluxe walnut stock. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a 30 inch no. 5 octagon barrel (subsequently shortened to 29 1/2 inches), .32-40 caliber, and Schuetzen set trigger when it was received in the warehouse on October 26th, 1900, and shipped on October 29th, 1900, with the serial number applied on July 13th, 1900. The No. 5 bottom marked barrel is stamped on the top with the two-line Winchester New Haven address and “32-40”. Fitted with a globe front sight (no insert) and the top of the receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight (not included). The lower tang has the patent date marking and the serial number. The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are deluxe walnut. The forend has two empty holes for affixing a palm rest (not included). The buttstock features a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, cheek piece and Helm buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped with the assembly number “10388 U.S. XX”. The assembly number “10388” is repeated on the matching original buttstock under the buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 70% original blue finish overall with scattered light freckling and smooth brown patina on the balance. Wood is very fine with defined edges, a few light scratches, some areas of light crazing, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 7,000
LOT 1075 Winchester Model 1885 Deluxe Low Wall Rifle - Serial no. 57373, 25 WCF cal., 28 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, highly figured checkered walnut stock. Manufactured in 1892. The no. 1 barrel is stamped with the two-line address marking ahead of the rear sight and “25 WCF” at the breech. Equipped with beaded blade Lyman front, elevation adjustable rear and Lyman tang sights. The lower tang is marked with the patent date and the serial number. Mounted on highly figured and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock. The buttstock has an ebony insert in the grip and a crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked “942XXX.” The stock inlet is marked “942.” The buttplate is marked “0/980.” In “The Winchester Book” author George Madis notes that deluxe low wall rifles were ordered less frequently than high wall rifles. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 50% faded original blue mostly thinning to a brown. The remaining surfaces retain 70% original case colors. The wood is fine with a small hairline crack near the upper tang, some minor dings and scratches and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
LOT 1076 Very Fine Winchester Model 1885 Single Shot High Wall Rifle in .32-40 - Serial no. 88215, 32-40 cal., 28 inch half octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This is an attractive example of a Winchester Model 1885 High Wall rifle in popular .32-40 cartridge that was manufactured circa 1899. The rifle has a special order 30 inch, half octagon, no. 3 weight barrel which is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and “32-40” at the breech. It has a Winchester commercial blue finished barrel and receiver. Features a pinched blade front sight with a flip-up bead and a Lyman adjustable folding tang peep rear sight. The rifle is fitted with a straight grip plain walnut stock and matching straight grain forearm.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus original blue finish overall, strongest on the action with some light pitting on the left muzzle end of the barrel, a few small patches of light
pitting on either side of the breech, 60% case colors strongest in protected areas on the breech block and lever, and distinct edges and markings in the metal overall. Wood is also very fine
with attractive grain, some light crazing on the forend, a few light handling marks, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
“3” for the barrel weight. The lower tang is marked with serial number “106033”. Flip-up globe front sight and Lyman tang peep rear sight. It is fitted with a Winchester A5 scope on original Winchester pattern target mounts. The scope has an all blued metal finish with the Winchester factory two-line markings on the front end of the scope tube and cross-hair reticle. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus original blue finish, with a few areas of flaking and smooth brown patina on the exposed surfaces. Strong traces of original case colors remain on the breech block, hammer and lever. The wood is excellent, with a few light scratches and defined edges overall. Mechanically excellent. The scope tube is very fine with 85% original blue finish, and the optics are hazy. A very fine Winchester Model 1885 High Wall rifle in a desirable takedown configuration! Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Three Bullet Molds for Rare Rifle Calibers - 1) .40-110 Express caliber, with brass lined mold, hardwood grips, and a sprue cutter. 2) .45-125 Express caliber, iron construction with sprue cutter. 3) .50-110 Winchester Express caliber, iron construction with sprue cutter.
CONDITION: All three are good or better with “1” retaining most of the blue finish, the other two with a mostly grey patina and some scattered light pitting. Estimate: 700 - 1,200

Scarce Winchester Model 1885 Special Order High Wall Heavy Barrel Takedown Rifle with Winchester A5 Scope - Serial no. 106033, 25-35 cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This is a scarce example of a 1907 production Winchester Model 1885 High Wall heavy barrel takedown rifle. It is fitted with a walnut Schnabel tip forend with small ebony insert and walnut buttstock. The left, middle area of the barrel is roll marked with the Winchester factory two-line address and patent markings followed by “25-35 W.C.F.” at the breech end.
