Desirable London Agency Cased Silver Plated,
Early Production “High Hammer” Variant Colt
Third Model “Thuer” Derringer - Serial no. 4392,
41 RF cal., 2 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/silver finish,
hardwood grips. These derringers were introduced
in 1870 and totaled around 48,000 produced. The
top of the barrel has a rounded blade front sight
and “COLT” in large italic letters and the bottom of the
barrel has small British proofs. The hammer is the early
production “high” variant. The serial number is on the left of the grip frame and hand marked inside each of the grips. Includes an oak presentation case with Colt London agency label inside the lid, key, cleaning rod, and three .41 RF cartridges.
CONDITION: Very good plus, retains 20% of the original blue finish and 40% of the silver finish with the balance having thinned to either a smooth grey-brown patina or an attractively aged brass. The grips are very fine with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with some light handling/storage wear.

London Proofed Pair of Colt Third
Model “Thuer” Derringers with Case -A) Colt Third
Model “Thuer” Derringer - Serial no. 43112, 41 RF cal., 2 inch round
bbl., nickel finish, hardwood grips. Manufacturing began in 1870. This pair are both
of the Second Type, featuring sloped hammers and no bolster on the front lower frame. Both
have the standard italic Colt marking on top of the barrel and small British proofs on the bottom, with the
serial numbers marked on the left side of the grip frames and on the inside of the grips on both. The two are serialized only 326 numbers apart. They are both marked “41 CAL.” on the left of the frames along with a “C” and Rampant Colt. They are housed in an included leather wrapped case along with a cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the original nickel finish with some scattered light flaking on the right of the barrel and some mild muzzle wear showing a smooth grey patina. The grips are also very fine with some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some mild wear.
B) Colt Third Model “Thuer” Derringer - Serial no. 43438, 41 RF cal., 2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hardwood grips. See “A”.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original nickel finish with a patch of minor flaking on the left of the barrel showing a smooth grey patina, and some light edge wear. The grips are also very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Cased British E.M. Reilly Retailer Inscribed Colt Third Model “Thuer” Derringer with Case - Serial no. 15856, 41 RF cal., 2 3/8 inch round bbl., blue/silver finish, hardwood grips. These derringers were introduced in 1870,
manufactured until 1912, and totaled around 48,000 produced. The top of the barrel has a rounded blade front sight and “COLT” in large italic
letters and the bottom of the barrel has small British proofs. The right side of the frame is retailer inscribed “E.M. REILLY & Co. LONDON.” It is
fitted with a pair of smooth grips, the left hand numbered “15856” on the inside. Includes a leather wrapped, dual compartment
case and two .41 RF cartridges.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 30% plus of the original silver finish
on the frame and traces of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina
or an attractively aged brass. The grips are very fine with a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically
LOT 1105 Fine Colt Second Model Single Shot Derringer - Serial no. 8383, 41 RF cal., 2 1/2 inch irregular bbl., blue/silver finish, walnut grips. One of approximately 9,000 manufactured from 1870 to 1890. It has the standard two-line address and “No2” model marking on the top barrel flat. There are flourishes of factory floral scroll engraving on the sides of the frame and the back strap. The matching serial number is marked on the butt and on the bottom of the barrel, where there are also British proofs. “41CAL” is marked on the right of the frame and “C” on the bottom in front of the trigger. It is fitted with blade and hammer notch sights, and a pair of checkered walnut grips. CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% of the original blue finish and strong traces of the attractively aged silver in the sheltered areas around the trigger, with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The grips are also fine with a few scattered minor dings and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,250
