Southall Tap Action Two-Shot Boxlock Flintlock Pistol with Snap Bayonet - NSN, 42 cal., 2 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/bright finish, walnut grips. Manufactured c. 1813-1817. The blued barrels have Birmingham proofs and a folding bayonet is fitted to the right side of the upper barrel. The brass boxlock has floral and martial engraving, the rotating lever on the left to switch the pan between barrels, “SOUTHALL/-LONDON-” in an oval on the left, and a sliding safety. The slab sided grip has checkering down the back and around to the toe and a silver rectangular escutcheon. CONDITION: Very good with 30% original blue finish, dark aged patina on the brass and silver, mottled gray patina on the balance, and minor pitting. The grip is also very good and has mild dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically fine, including the snap bayonet. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Pair of Brass Wheeler Marked Flintlock Pistols with Silver Wire Inlaid Grips and Silver Buttcaps -A) Wheeler Box Lock Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 3 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. This pair of pistols has “WHEELER” on the left side and “LONDON” on the right side of the actions along with some light engraving accents. The underside of the actions under the flash pan have pairs of crown and cross scepter proofmarks. Gun B also has an additional “R” stamp in between the two proofs and a “1” at the breech on the barrel and action. Robert Wheeler had a shop in London beginning around 1767. The firm was renamed Robert Wheeler & Son in 1813 and remained active until 1830. Wheeler is known to have produced an array of pistols (including box locks) and long guns for government contracts as well as export. The pistols feature cannon style screw off barrels and walnut grips with silver wire inlaid designs and face shaped silver buttcaps which have several small stamps. CONDITION: Good. The brass has a varied aged patina while the iron remains bright with some slight pitting and strike marks. The grip is also good with some small dents and minor scratches. The action is fine, and the marking and designs are clear. B) Wheeler Box Lock Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 3 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. See gun A. CONDITION: Good. The brass has an aged patina with some variance in tones. The iron is mostly bright with some light pitting and gray patina. The wood is also good with some minor marks and dings. The markings are mostly clear aside from the floral design on the trigger guard. The action is functional but needs some minor adjustments. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Fine Pair of Engraved and Silver Mounted Perry Side by Side Screw Barrel Boxlock Flintlock Pistols -A) Perry Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. These late 18th century pistols are from c. 1780 by William Perry and have “CF” silversmith marks and Birmingham hallmarks on the pommel caps (date code not legible). The cannon style barrels screw off for reloading and are numbered 1-4, and the breech sections on the actions are also correspondingly numbered and marked with London proof and view marks. The pistols have broad frizzens, double pans, sliding covers for the left pans, single cocks, relief scroll and floral patterns, “PERRY. LONDON” on the right sides, lion and floral pattern silver pommel caps, and silver wire inlaid grips. CONDITION: Fine with gray and brown patina, mild oxidation and pitting, mild overall wear, attractive aged patina on the silver, and crisp designs. The refinished grip is also fine and has some small spots of loose or absent wire, some faint filler, and mild handling wear. Mechanically fine. B) Perry Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut grips. See “A”. CONDITION: Fine with gray and brown patina, mild oxidation and pitting, mild overall wear, attractive aged patina on the silver, and crisp designs. The refinished grip is also fine and has some pieces of loose or absent inlay and general mild handling and storage wear. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 4,500 - 8,000

Desirable Silver Mounted Pair of Haywood “Queen Anne” Flintlock Pistols -A) Haywood Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 60 cal., 6 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1720. Charles Haywood was apprenticed to Richard Lawrence in 1710. These pistols are an interesting Queen Anne variation with removable sidelocks rather than the more common boxlock format with the lock and breech plate formed as one piece, but they still have the distinctive Queen Anne style frizzen spring and screw-off barrels with cannon style muzzles. The breech sections have private proof and view marks offset to the left and “BOUGHTON” marked on top. The locks are signed “HAYWOOD” and have scroll and border engraving. The lion mask pommel caps, wrist escutcheons, and classical martial themed side plates are all silver. The stocks have scroll and shell carving at the breeches. CONDITION: Very good with mostly silver-gray patina, some minor oxidation/pitting, attractive aged patina on the silver, and mild wear. The stock is fine and has some scratches and dings, a spliced repair above the lock, and nice carving. Mechanically fine. B) Haywood Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 60 cal., 6 inch round bbl., bright/ silver finish, walnut stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Very good with mostly silver-gray patina, some minor oxidation/pitting, attractive aged patina on the silver, front half of the sideplate detached (included), and mild wear. The stock is fine and has some scratches and dings, a spliced repair above the lock, cracks in the left at the breech, distinct carving, and some nice figure. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500
