Underwood “11-43” dated barrel, “N” marked blade front sight, “S” and “N-A” marked two position flip-up rear sight, “UI” type I barrel band, “N/14” flat top bolt, “N13” operating

“SN” magazine catch, and “IS” magazine. Unmarked two-rivet handguard, high wood stock with “TRIMBLE/TN” stamped in the sling cutout and boxed “NPM/FJA” behind
“crossed cannons” cartouche on the right of the buttstock. Includes tan canvas sling and oiler. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 98% original parkerized finish with very light cycling wear, 97% original blue finish on the bolt, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. Stock is very fine with distinct edges, some scattered light handling marks, a few dings on top of the buttstock, a chip at the top of the oiler cut, a reglued section behind the oiler cut, and crisp defined stampings. Historic U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle in Sporting Configuration
Documented to World War II Ordnance Officer and American Major General Earl S. Gruver, with SRS Letter and Provenance Letter - Serial no. 1300755, 30-06 Springfield cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1928 and later refitted in “sporter” configuration, this rifle is identified by serial number in an
included Army shipping form/invoice as having been sold from Springfield Armory inventory on July 28th, 1954 to Major General Earl S. Gruver. Earl S. Gruver (1898-1963) was born in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1898, was a West Point graduate, and entered the Army in the inter-war years as an Ordnance officer, performed gunnery testing at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, supported mechanized cavalry operations in Fort Knox, and served
as an ordnance/gunnery instructor at West Point. In 1942, he was appointed the Ordnance Officer for the U.S. Military Mission in Cairo. Gruver and his team were also responsible for getting British forces up to speed on American-made Lend-Lease equipment. Later in the war, he was stationed in England, performed
additional Ordnance work, including as the Ordnance Section Chief of the Planning Division. Afterwards, he served as Chief of the Industrial Activities Division and as ordnance officer for the Panama Canal Department and the U.S. Army in the Caribbean. He eventually retired in 1955. The rifle is fitted with hooded blade front and Lyman
peep rear sights, with a “5-42” dated Springfield barrel, polished “NS” bolt, an unmarked pistol grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate. Also includes a Springfield Research Service letter indicating the rifle was first sent to the State of Massachusetts on February 20th, 1933, and another included letter dated March 19th, 1968 from the son of Major
General Earl S. Gruver confirms this rifle was procured by his father in 1954 and indicates this rifle was sold to an individual name Jerry Pregenzer in February 1968. CONDITION: Very fine as arsenal/armorer refurbished, with 95% of the parkerized finish, showing some light handling marks and edge wear overall, and some light corrosion on the rear sight. The bolt has been polished bright. Stock is very fine with a few light dings and scratches, a small hairline crack on top of the wrist behind the receiver, and defined edges overall. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000 LOT 421 Canadian Marked World War I U.S. Remington Model 1917 Presentation Style Bolt Action Rifle with Remington Bayonet - Serial no. 499988, 30-06 Springfield cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This Remington Model 1917 rifle features a smooth high grade walnut presentation style pistol grip stock with “E” marked at the nose, finger grooves, and a smooth trapdoor buttplate. It is known that rifles with interesting serial numbers were occasionally set aside at the factory and finished for presentation purposes, with the intended recipient of this rifle, serial number 499988, unknown at the time of writing. “R/(flaming bomb)/8-18” marked barrel with blade front and adjustable ladder and peep rear sights, standard receiver ring markings with a Canadian broad arrow military marking on the right front and rear surface of the receiver, double eagle head proofs on top of the left receiver rail, and a single flaming bomb proof on the left. Flaming bomb, “J” and “E” markings on the bolt. Includes a Remington Pattern 1913 bayonet dated “12 15” and an olive drab green plastic scabbard. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 98% arsenal refurbished blue finish with a few spots of light freckling, and 85% parkerized finish on the bolt. Stock is also very fine as professionally arsenal refurbished in a presentation style, with some light handling marks, a few mild scratches on the left of the handguard and left of the buttstock, and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet and scabbard are both very fine. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

U.S. Winchester M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle with CMP Shipping Record - Serial no. 2501125, 30-06 Springfield cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in October of 1944. Blade front and adjustable peep rear sights. Fitted with a Winchester barrel, Winchester “D28287-1W.R.A.” bolt, “C46025W.R.A.” trigger guard, “D28290W.R.A.” trigger housing, “C-46008-5 SA” hammer, and “D35382W.R.A.” operating rod. Smooth pistol grip stock with three “P” proofs behind the trigger guard, “AAX” above “AA” arsenal refurbishment stamps on the left wrist and a checkered steel buttplate. Includes a plastic rear sight cover, cut out page of a January 2020 American Rifleman short article titled “The Mystique of Winchester M1s”, 1998 dated CMP shipping record, 1998 dated CMP letter, and a copy of a cashiers check for the purchase of this rifle from the CMP. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% original parkerized finish with a few wear spots and some patches of light freckling. Stock is fine as arsenal refurbished, with a few dents and handling marks.
