Exceptional Exhibition Quality Moore’s Patent Teat-Fire Revolver with Factory Full Gold
Finish, Etched, and Engraved Decoration with Presentation Case - Serial no. 11019, 32 teat-fire cal., 3 1/4 inch round bbl., gold finish, antique ivory grips. Made from 1864 to 1870, the majority of Moore’s revolvers were finished in blue and silver, with an unknown smaller number done in full gold. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, with the barrel marked “MOORE’S PAT FIREARMS Co, BROOKLYN, N.Y.” in a panel and the cylinder “D. WILLIAMSON’S PATENT JANUARY 5, 1864” near the rear face. Acid etched scroll and leaf designs are present on the barrel, with punch dot backed scroll engraving on the frame, scenes
of birds in the field on the sides of the frame, floral
bursts on the recoil shield and a stand of flags and woodland scene of a dog facing off against a buck
on the cylinder, done in a combination of etching
and engraving. Checkered hammer and trigger, with smooth bird head grips. Matching numbers on the barrel and grips, with “DC19” on the frame under the left grip. In a purple velvet lined hardwood case with a full 50-round cartridge block.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, with 70% of the untouched original gold plating, showing areas of gray patina on the barrel and hammer. Grips are very fine, with a small amount of shrinkage, a few hairline age cracks and an attractively aged patina. Mechanically fine. Case is also very fine, with some wear and fading of the lining, and some external scratches.
