Outstanding Civil War U.S. Contract Starr Arms Co. Model 1858 Army Double Action Revolver Rig with Holster, Belt, Bullet Mold, and Cartridge Pack - Serial no. 11667, 44 cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. The Model 1858 Army double action revolvers were manufactured by the Starr Arms Co. of New York. Between 1862 and 1864 the Ordnance Department purchased approximately 21,000 .44 caliber Starr D.A. revolvers. These revolvers were issued to a broad array of Union cavalry regiments from Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The first 9,900 of these revolvers were procured in 1862. The revolver has
a high polish blue finish on the barrel, six-shot cylinder, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading lever, trigger, and hammer have a color casehardened finish. The screws have a fire blue finish. The one- piece grip is oil finished walnut and has crisp “JWK” (John W. Keene) cartouches on both the left and right. It also has the standard Starr markings and small government inspection markings on the various components. Included with the revolver is a very rare U.S. holster and cavalry belt rig with an S.H. Young & Co. cap box and J. Davy & Co. cartridge box.
