Rare Engraved Parker, Field
& Sons Six-Shot Transitional
Percussion Revolving Rifle of
Lang “Gas-Seal” Type - Serial
no. 9910, 54 bore cal., 27 inch octagon bbl., brown/blue/
casehardened finish, walnut stock. This revolving rifle incorporates a reciprocating cylinder system of the type associated with Joseph Lang which forms a gas seal between the
cylinder and breech end of the barrel. The browned Damascus barrel is of octagonal form, cut with multi-groove rifling, fitted
with a small blade front sight and rear sight formed of a standing notch with a folding ladder, signed “PARKER, FIELD & SONS” and “233
HOLBORN, LONDON” on the top flat either side of the rear sight and is struck with London proof marks on the underside. A very rare Parker, Field
& Sons designed sprung rammer is fitted to the right side of the barrel, this is signed “REGISTERED BY/PARKER, FIELD & SONS” on the tubular housing and has
a pivoting stirrup finely engraved with scrollwork. Casehardened cylinder struck with further London proof marks and with chambers numbered from “1” to “6” on
the front face. Casehardened frame and blued trigger guard with border and scroll engraving and large casehardened hammer engraved with scrollwork and with finely checkered spur. The underside of the frame with green horn hand grip. Figured walnut pistol grip butt with multi-point checkered grip, blued steel buttplate engraved with scrollwork and an engraved casehardened pistol grip cap.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 75% browned finish, probably original, with scattered patches of surface discoloration throughout. The cylinder and frame have traces of original finish, mostly a dark patina with softened engraving. The buttplate retains 40% of the original blued finish. The walnut butt has been cleaned and reoiled and has some scattered age related storage and handling blemishes and a glued repair to a grain crack to the left face at the heel. The checkering remains well-defined. Mechanically excellent.

Six-Shot Transitional Percussion Revolver
of Lang “Gas-Seal” Type - Serial no. 9718, 54 bore
cal., 6 1/4 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. This revolver
incorporates a reciprocating cylinder system of the type associated with Joseph Lang
which forms a gas seal between the cylinder and breech end of the barrel. The blued barrel is of
octagonal form, is cut with multi-groove rifling, is fitted with a small blade front sight and standing
notch rear sight, signed “PARKER, FIELD & SONS, 233, HOLBORN, LONDON” on the top flat and is struck with London
proof marks on the underside. A very rare blued Parker, Field & Sons designed sprung rammer is fitted to the right side of
the barrel, this is signed “REGIS.D JUNE 14TH 1852/BY PARKER, FIELD & SONS” on the tubular housing and has a pivoting casehardened stirrup finely engraved with scrollwork. Casehardened cylinder with chambers numbered from “1” to “6” and
struck with further London proof marks. Casehardened frame and trigger guard with border and scroll engraving and large casehardened dolphin hammer finely incised with fish scales and with finely checkered spur. Figured walnut butt with fine multi- point checkering covering most of its surface, a small blank oval silver initial escutcheon to the back edge, and border engraved butt cap with hinged scroll engraved trap cover. In original oak fitted case lined with green velvet, the lid with printed Parker, Field & Sons trade label. With accessories including Sykes brass-mounted copper three-way powder flask, Hawksley oiler, brass-mounted loading / cleaning rod with worm, and highly unusual brass tubular capping tool.
CONDITION: Fine with crisp engraving throughout. The barrel retains 95% original deep blued finish, the cylinder and frame have 20%
faded original casehardened finish, and the hammer has 75% strong original casehardened finish. There is some scattered discoloration to the cylinder, frame, trigger guard and
butt cap. The checkering on the walnut butt remains crisp with minor age related storage and handling blemishes. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some age related storage and handling marks and stains externally. The lining is good with some age marking and staining. The accessories are good.
