The included factory letter lists the carbine in .32 Winchester Special with a checkered pistol grip stock and Lyman front and rear sights when received at the warehouse on 8 September 1902 and shipped the next day. The letter also states that this was the first carbine in .32 W.S. with a checkered pistol grip stock manufactured by Winchester. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center records scan request shows another carbine in similar configuration being shipped two years after this example. Standard markings as well as “13229 CFC” crossed out on the left of the lower tang, “8639 XXX C” on the left of the upper tang, “8639” on the stock under the buttplate, and “10575” on the inside of the replacement buttplate. Fitted with pinned beaded blade front, three-leaf notch rear, and tang mounted peep sights. Mounted with a very finely figured checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap and carbine buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 85% original blue finish on the barrel and magazine and strong traces of original case colors on the lever, hammer, and buttplate, with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina, and the receiver showing 30% original blue finish. The wood is very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, mostly well-defined checkering, and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent.

Antique First Year Production Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter and Leather Scabbard - Serial no. 2979, 40-82 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1886, the first year of production, the standard two-line address and caliber marking are on the top barrel flat. The model designation is marked on the upper tang. The serial number and two-line patent dates are marked on the lower tang. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration as well as receipt at the warehouse on 28 December 1886 and shipment on 9 March 1887 in order number 16243. Includes a lightly tooled leather scabbard hand marked “WEN” on the back. CONDITION: Very good, retains 30% of the original blue finish and 20% of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and some speckling of light oxidation on the receiver. The wood is also very good with some minor handling marks scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. The scabbard is fair with extensive wear. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

Winchester Deluxe Model 1895 Lever Action Takedown Rifle in Desirable .405
W.C.F. Rifle - Serial no. 64675, 405 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1921 and chambered
for the highly desirable .405 WCF cartridge, the most powerful cartridge ever offered in a Winchester lever action rifle and suitable for hunting dangerous game in North America, Africa or Asia. President Teddy Roosevelt used a Winchester Model 1895 rifle chambered for the .405 W.C.F. cartridge extensively during his famous African safari. The left side of the receiver is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates. The left side of the barrel has the two-line nickel steel marking and “405 WCF.” The upper tang has the three-line model designation and trademark information, and the serial number is on the lower tang. The rifle is fitted with non-factory Redfield blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights. The receiver is fitted with a Lyman sight. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. It is mounted with an H-pattern checkered forearm with ebony insert and a straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, mostly on the top and forward portion of the receiver. The period, non-factory recheckered wood is very good with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
