Antique Black Powder Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Leather Holster - Serial no. 153804, 44 WCF cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, antique ivory grips. The .44-40 WCF SAA has found a special place in the hearts of Peacemaker collectors. When introduced
in 1877, the .44-40 WCF SAA was intended to be used in conjunction with the another legendary
Western icon, the Winchester Model 1873 Rifle, which used the same cartridge. As Colt author David Brown said, “This combination of a rifle and a six shooter using the same cartridge made it possible for their user to buy only one kind of ammunition, and he could carry ‘fodder’ for both guns in the same cartridge belt.”This example was manufactured in 1893 and certainly has the appearance of spending a lifetime on the Western frontier. The barrel has the “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” stamped marking, and matching serial numbers are on frame, trigger guard, and back strap. Includes an open top/open toe leather holster.
CONDITION: Very good as a well traveled sidearm seeing heavy use in a challenging environment. Traces of original blue finish remain around the trigger and strong original blue finish remain on the barrel under the ejector rod housing. The front sight has been modified during its service life. The attractive grips are fine with typical age lines on the bottom and attractive aged mellow color and grain. Mechanically fine. Holster is fine.
Estimate: 5,000 - 7,000
