LOT 3204 Exceptional U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Rifle - Serial no. 223529, 30 ARMY (30-40) cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1899. Blade front and folding ladder rear sight, standard markings on the oil-quenched receiver, blue finished barrel and barrel bands, nitre blue extractor, and bright bolt with knurled cocking piece. Smooth straight grip stock with grasping grooves, “Y” and circled script “P” proof stamped behind the trigger guard, boxed “JSA/1899” inspection cartouche stamped on the left wrist of the attractive figured walnut stock, and a smooth, blue steel buttplate. Includes three-piece cleaning rod and oiler in buttstock. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% original blue finish and 90% oil-quenched casehardened finish, 95% fiery niter blue finish on the extractor, bright bolt with some light freckling on the
knob, a few small patches of light corrosion, and sharp edges and markings in the metal overall. Stock is also excellent with attractive original raised and figured grains, a few light handling marks, with distinct edges, grasping grooves and stampings. Mechanically excellent. U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine with Star Suffix Serial Number - Serial no. 181205, 45-70 Government cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor carbine features a pinned blade front sight, Buckhorn rear sight correctly marked with a “C” on both the base and ladder, boxed script “SWP/1880” (Samuel W. Porter) inspection cartouche stamped on the left wrist of the stock, circled script “P” proof behind the lower tang, and the serial number “181205” has a star marked to the right of it, which is typically attributed to guns that have gone through an arsenal rebuild. Initials “WHD” carved on bottom of the buttstock. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% arsenal refurbished blue finish on the barrel, 80% arsenal applied oil-quenched casehardened finish on the lock and hammer, 40% plus vivid case
colors visible on the breech block and upper tang, smooth gray patina on the balance, and a few areas of light pitting. Stock is also fine, with some dents and scratches, a scuff on the bottom tip of the forend, carving as mentioned above, and mostly crisp stampings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Spanish-American War Era U.S. Springfield Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Bolt Action Saddle Ring Carbine - Serial no. 79210, 30 ARMY (30-40) cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. These carbines were used throughout the Spanish-American War and later in the Philippine Insurrection, most famously by future President Theodore Roosevelt’s 1st Volunteer Cavalry “Rough Riders”. Fixed blade front sight and ladder rear sight with a modern applied “C” stamp. The receiver is marked “MODEL 1896.”, “U.S./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY.” and serial number “79210” on the left side. Correct high hump barrel band to protect the rear sight from catching in a saddle boot, a short saddle ring on the left side followed by a modern restamped boxed script “JSA/1896” cartouche with angled corners, a circled script “P” proof behind the trigger guard, and buttplate with a trapdoor compartment.
CONDITION: Very good, retains half of an old refinished blue finish with scattered gray and brown patinas on the balance, and some patches of light pitting. Stock is also very good as sanded and refinished, slightly undersized around the buttplate, with defined recut grasping grooves and a crisp restamped cartouche. Mechanically excellent. LOT 3208 Excellent and Desirable U.S. Model 1900 Krag Bowie Bayonet with Scabbard - Produced (and dated) for trial in 1900, as a replacement for the standard bayonet which could pull double duty as a brush knife. Measuring 13 1/2 inches overall, the 9 inch blade has a deep back clip point and a 2 1/2 inch sharpened edge on the spine, with “US” on the right ricasso and “1900” on the left. All of the metal is bright, with a pair of smooth wood scales completing the grip. With a full metal sheath, which features the distinct ball tip and 100 degree belt swivel. CONDITION: Excellent with an overall bright blade, a couple small spots of pinhole pitting, and crisp markings. Scabbard is very fine retaining nearly all original blue finish with a couple minor dings and dents. This desirable bayonet would make the perfect addition to any United States Military collection!
