Excellent Documented Early Production Factory
Engraved E. Remington & Sons Over/Under Derringer with
Pearl Grips - Serial no. 2066, 41 RF cal., 3 inch solid rib bbl.,
nickel finish, pearl grips. This outstanding factory engraved
Remington derringer is pictured and described in “Dr. William
H. Elliot’s Remington Double Derringer” by Drummond et
al on p.69. Per the book on page 107, this is the second
variation and only “probably more than 300 pistols” with
“E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.” on the right side of the
rib between the barrels and the “ELLIOT’S PATENT DEC.12.
1865” marking on the left side of the rib along with an extractor
were manufactured within the serial number ranges of 1288-1700 and 2000-2136. So only a few hundred of this version were manufactured compared to over 150,000 total Remington over/under derringers manufactured in 1866-1935. In “Flayderman’s Guide” this variation is identified as “Type 1, Late Production, a.k.a. Model No. 2” and identified
as manufactured c. 1868. He had suggested 14,000 were manufactured,
but his last guide came out prior to the new research in the book by Drummond et al. Adding to this derringer’s rarity is the extensive factory engraving, pearl grips, and excellent condition. The engraving consists of classic scroll patterns with punched backgrounds, entwining lines, dot, and other accents. The matching serial number is stamped on the bottom of the lower barrel and on the frame under the grips.
CONDITION: Excellent with 97% plus untouched original nickel plating, the

vast majority of the original niter blue on the small parts with some fading,
very limited minor oxidation, crisp engraving, distinct markings, and minor

wear, some natural imperfections, and attractive iridescence. Mechanically excellent.
