Triple Signed and Game Scene
Engraved Ivo Fabbri Sidelock Over/
Under Shotgun with Case - Serial
no. E542, 12 gauge, 29 inch vent
rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock.
Guns manufactured by Ivo Fabbri
are among the best in the world, and this gun is no exception. Fabbri guns are built on a custom order basis only and have a wait list of up to five years, not surprising considering they only produce some 30 guns a year! Blued
barrels with a dual bead sights on the matted vent rib, barrel
markings which read “IVO FABBRI BRESCIA ITALY” and
“VACUUM ARC REMELTING STEEL” on the left and
right respectively, 1978 dated Italian proof marks,
2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and light wavy line engraving running around the upper breech. The coin finished sidelock action is adorned with beautiful floral scroll designs which extend to the toplever, both tangs, and the trigger guard and surround a trio of absolutely fabulously executed game scenes cut by the hand of Italian Master Engraver Claudio Tomasoni who has signed his work on either lockplate below the scenes
and on the triggerplate to the right of the
trigger guard. The scenes consist of a flock
of mallards in flight over a lake with a farm
house in the background on the left, a flushed covey of quail in flight over a field with two having been hit by an unseen hunter on the
right, and a trio of snipe on the underside coming to land on the shoreline. Beautifully figured, multi-
point checkered forend with matching engraved fittings, and pistol grip stock is of equal quality with a leather covered adjustable comb, right hand palm swell, and adjustable Pachmayr recoil pad. Includes a wood and leather takedown case. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.5mm (.728 inches) and both measured .740/.741 inches; choke constriction .027/.036 inches; minimum wall
thickness .023/.021 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 15/8 inch drop at heel; 13 7/8 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 7 lbs. 15 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue and coin finishes with small spots of oxidation on the left side of the rib and the forend release, otherwise minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with some light edge wear, minor varnish loss, and overall sharp checkering. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. Don’t miss this chance to jump the five year wait time to own a piece of Fabbri art!
Estimate: 20,000 - 35,000
