Documented Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .45-90 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 135456A, 45-90 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1904, this special order Winchester Model 1886 rifle is chambered in the desirable .45-90 W.C.F. cartridge. The top of the barrel has the standard two-line address along with the caliber markings on the upper flat near the breech. There are factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The three-line model and trademark information is on the upper tang with the patent dates and serial number on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is unmarked. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight, elevation adjustable notch rear sight, and a Lyman peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is fitted with a special order double set trigger and is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel shotgun buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .45-90 caliber with a 36 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, and shotgun buttplate when received at the warehouse on 14 December 1906 and shipped the same day in order number 71456. The 36 inch barrel length listing in the factory letter may be a notation error by the factory as the 26 inch barrel and magazine do not appear to have been shortened. CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina and a series of light dings near the muzzle and tip of the magazine. The revarnished wood is very good with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
LOT 3059 Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine in .44-40 W.C.F. with Case - Serial no. 979921, 44 WCF cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1929 with standard markings including Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. Fitted with pinned blade front and folding ladder rear sights, as well as a saddle ring on the left of the receiver and period non-factory sling bases on the butt and magazine. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. Includes a period, homemade hardwood case (light illegible stencils visible under varnish) with carry handle, sling with attached swivels, and a few cleaning rods. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth brown patina, most noticeably on the receiver. The reoiled wood is fine with a few scattered minor handling marks. The lifter needs attention, otherwise mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some minor handling/storage wear. Fine Winchester N.R.A. Model 1895 Lever Action Musket in Scarce .30-03 Caliber - Serial no. 77498, 30-03 cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. These N.R.A. muskets were made to comply with the specifications of the National Rifle Association of America. To comply for target matches of the association for “any military arm” matches, special 24 inch barrels, Model 1901 Krag rear sights and a special flat butt plates were fitted to the standard Model 1895 musket. The Model 1895 muskets chambered in .30-03 caliber were manufactured from 1908 to 1917, with this example being made in 1912. The contoured receiver has the standard two-line address/patent dates on the left side, the upper tang has the three-line model/trademark information, and the lower tang has the serial number. The top of the receiver is marked with Winchester oval proof and the caliber marking. The front barrel band has a bayonet lug and stacking swivel, and a sling swivel is on the rear barrel band and stock. The forearm has a finger groove, and there is an upper handguard. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, primarily on the upper edges of the receiver, and a few scattered patches of light pitting. There are a few cracks coming off both tangs including one 2 1/2 inch crack off the lower tang and one at the front of the handguard, otherwise the wood is also fine with some scattered light handling marks and minor dings. Antique Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .45-70 WCF - Serial no. 39110, 45-70 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1888 with a casehardened receiver, as was standard on the Model 1886 until 1902. The standard two-line address and caliber are marked on the upper barrel flat. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the two-line patent dates and serial number are on the lower tang. It is fitted with German silver blade front and folding ladder rear sights. It’s mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% of the original blue finish and 30% of the vibrant original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The wood is very good with some scattered minor handling marks and a series of minor age-related cracks on the right of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000
LOT 3062 Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 288285, 30 WCF cal., 26 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This Model 1894 was manufactured in 1906 and features a special order half octagon barrel, 1/2 magazine tube, and shotgun butt. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/patent date, and the left rear upper flat is marked with the two-line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and “30 W.C.F.” at the breech. The Winchester oval proof is marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the caliber marking and on top of the receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model/maker/trademark marking, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It also has dovetailed brass blade front and three leaf (two folding, one fixed) rear sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt and that it was shipped in order number 50762 on August 1, 1906. CONDITION: Fine. The rifle retains 75% original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, some thinning to a gray patina, some minor scratches and a small area of minor pitting on the receiver. Much of the original vivid case colors remain on the hammer, and the lever is a mix of original case colors and a smooth gray patina. The wood is fine as refinished with some minor dents and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
