Massive Unwin & Rodgers Sheffield Coffin Hilt Spearpoint Bowie Knife with Sheath - Manufactured c. mid-19th century by Unwin & Rodgers of Sheffield, England, knives such as this one were made almost exclusively for the American market and their appetite for
large Bowie knives. This massive knife measures 16 1/4 inches overall with an 11 1/8 inch spearpoint blade. One ricasso is marked with a “CAST STEEL/BOWIE KNIFE” trademark, while the other bears the maker’s mark. It is fitted with an elliptical German silver guard.
The hilt is of German silver with smooth pearl grip scales and a German silver escutcheon on one side. The included sheath is of brown leather with a German silver throat fitting.
CONDITION: Very good, the blade mostly bright with some mild wear, a few patches of scattered light pitting, and mostly crisp markings. The German silver shows an attractively aged patina overall. The grips are also very good with a few minor chips
and cracks. The sheath is good with extensive wear and tearing, and the tip fitting absent.

Attractive George Woodhead Sheffield Bowie Knife with Sheath - The George Woodhead firm was in operation under his name alone from 1849 to 1875 at 36 Howard Street in Sheffield, before later becoming known as George Woodhead & Sons. Like most Sheffield knife maker’s, Woodhead’s largest market would have been in the United States, especially during the Civil War. It measures 11 5/8 inches overall
with a 7 1/8 inch clip point blade marked “G. WOODHEAD/36 HOWARD STREET/ SHEFFIELD” on the left. The guard is German silver with acorn shaped
finials on the quillions. It is fitted with smooth dark horn grip scales with a German silver escutcheon on the left, and antique ivory scales on the pommel. Includes
a black leather sheath with German silver fittings. CONDITION: Very good, The blade mostly bright with some light cleaning evidence and crisp markings. The German silver is bright with an attractive, lightly aged patina. The grips are fine with a few scattered
minor handling marks. The sheath is good with moderate wear. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750
LOT 3107
Very Fine Engraved Henry Deringer Percussion Pocket Pistol - NSN, 40 cal., 2 inch flat top bbl., brown/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1848-1850 based on the design of the trigger guard finial. Blade front and notch rear sights, with a pair of German silver inlaid bands bordering the breech and “DERINGER/ PHILADELa” on top, and a “P” on the upper left. Flourishes of floral scroll engraving are present on the German silver and iron, including the lockplate which is also marked “DERINGER/PHILADEL”. There is an engraved German silver escutcheon on the wrist and a small cap compartment in the butt.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% plus of the original brown twist finish with distinct patterns and 75% plus
of the original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The German silver remains mostly bright and the engraving is crisp throughout. The wood
is fine with extensive crazing of the varnish, minimal handling marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent

Attractive Sheffield Style “Best English Cutlery” Folding Knife with Horse Head Pommel - The left ricasso is marked “BEST/ ENGLISH/CUTLERY” with no other visible maker’s marks. It measures 10 inches overall when unfolded with a 4 1/2 inch drop point blade.
The guard is German silver and cast with floral motifs and the pommel features the horse head, anchor, and wheel design. It is fitted with smooth antique ivory grip scales.
CONDITION: Very fine, the blade almost entirely bright with very little wear, the German silver showing an attractively aged patina, and a lifted crack through the right grip scale but otherwise light handling evidence.

Attractive James Westa Sheffield Bowie Knife with Sheath - Manufactured c. 1840s to 1860s by the James Westa firm of
Sheffield, England. It measures 11 inches overall, with a 6 7/8 inch clip point blade. The left ricasso is marked “JAMES WESTA/LORD. ST/SHEFFIELD”. The straight guard
is German silver with floral motifs on the bolsters and the German silver
pommel also has floral motifs. It is fitted with smooth pearl grip scales with a German silver escutcheon on the left. Includes a black leather sheath with German silver fittings.
CONDITION: Very good, the blade mostly bright with some scattered small
patches of light surface pitting. The German silver shows an attractively aged patina overall with some scattered minor dings. The grips are fine with a couple hairline age cracks. The sheath is good with
flaking of the leather and moderate wear on the balance.
