Bead front sight, folding ladder rear sight, border and scroll engraved nipple shield and action (the latter with engraved sliding safety catch on the left side), blued border and scroll engraved trigger guard fitted with a cutter for opening paper cartridges, figured walnut roach belly butt with checkered semi-pistol grip, silver escutcheon, and engraved iron buttplate. There are Birmingham proofmarks. William James Harvey had worked in partnership with his father John
from 1843 until 1850 at their 68 South Street premises in Exeter and took over the business and ran it under his sole name until 1870. William registered two patents concerning
revolving firearms, both of which are incorporated in this carbine. This carbine was formerly in the Dr. R.C.S. Pointon collection (Halls of Shrewsbury, 13 October 2005, lot 23).
CONDITION: Fine. Mostly faded original finish throughout. The engraving remains crisp throughout, and the mechanism functions correctly with good spring pressure. There are some age related storage and handling marks to the otherwise fine stock and checkering remains crisp. Overall a fine and rare British percussion sporting carbine. Provenance: The Dr. R.C.S. Manton English Six-Shot Bar
Hammer Double Action Percussion
Transitional Revolver - NSN, 39 cal., 6
inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut
grips. Unlike a traditional revolver, these transitional
revolvers do not lock the cylinder in place and instead
rely on properly timed double action mechanisms to ensure the chamber is properly lined up with the barrel for each shot. It has fine English scroll and floral engraving, a right offset bar hammer to allow viewing of the small German silver bead front sight, “MANTON LONDON” marked on top of the barrel, 1-6 marked on the side of the cylinder between the chambers, Birmingham proofs on the barrel and cylinder, and checkered walnut grips.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 95% original high polish blue finish on the barrel and 90% plus vivid case colors with some light fading on the back strap, and sharp engraving. The trigger guard retains 40% original. Grips are excellent with crisp checkering, and a few light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.

Cased Engraved William A. Beckwith Large Bore Percussion “Dragoon Size” Pepperbox - NSN, 33 bore cal., 4 1/2
inch fluted bbl., casehardened finish, checkered walnut grips. The sideplate
is signed “W A/BECKWITH/SKINNER ST/ LONDON.” Fine, well executed floral scrollwork decorates the frame, bar hammer, trigger guard, and butt cap. Each of the six chambers are numbered. London proofs are stamped on each barrel cluster fluted rib. A niter blued belt hook is mounted on the right side of the
frame. There is a sliding hammer safety.
The one piece nicely figured walnut grip
features fine checkering, silver thumb
escutcheon inscribed with initials and a
butt cap with compartment. The partitioned case
has a W.A. Beckwith paper label on the interior of
the lid and contains a wooden ramrod, R. Walker’s
cap tin, oiler, Sykes powder flask, nipple wrench,
screwdriver, lead balls, and ball mold.
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% original case
colors otherwise faded to an attractive gray. the
engraving is crisp. Two percussion nipples are
absent. The belt hook and sliding hammer safety
retain 70% original niter blue. The grip is excellent with overall
crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with absent lock escutcheon and lid round inscription inlay, cracked lid and glue repairs mostly visible in the lid lining. Most of the slightly creased paper label remains. A very attractive casehardened large bore percussion pepperbox.

Shot “Hammerless” Percussion Revolving Sporting Carbine
- Serial no. 3904, 60 cal., 17 7/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/blue finish, walnut
stock. Manufactured circa 1855-56. This carbine incorporates British Patent No. 1298 of 26 May 1853 and No. 2602 of 11 December 1854. It features a browned twist octagonal barrel rifled with three grooves and signed “HARVEY’S PATENT BREECH LOADING REVOLVING CARBINE.” The cylinder is signed “HARVEY’S PATENT” and
