Exceptional “IPSWICH” Massachusetts Militia Marked Revolutionary War Era French Model 1766 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 45 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. French Model 1763 and 1766 muskets were among the most widely used muskets by the Patriots during the American Revolutionary War thanks to
support from France, which ultimately allowed the Americans to emerge victorious. French muskets remained in use well-into the 19th century and were the basis for the early U.S. martial musket models. “IPSWICH” is branded into the stock to the left of the barrel tang and on the right rear ahead of the buttplate, a militia marking of Ipswich, Massachusetts.
