Extremely Scarce S.H. Roper “Cloverleaf” Revolving Shotgun - NSN, 12 gauge, 28 3/8 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. According to Flayderman’s Guide, only
25 of these “cloverleaf” revolving shotguns were manufactured in the
1860s-1870s. These were split into two different versions: one with
a solid frame like this one and another version with a hinged
frame. The barrel has an adjustable choke ring and
bead front sight. “S.H. ROPER” is marked on the
plate on the top of the action. It is equipped
with a smooth forearm with horn tip and a finely
figured, straight wrist buttstock with a shotgun
buttplate and 12 3/4 inch length of pull to the
firing trigger.
CONDITION: Very fine with 75% plus of the lightly
fading original blue finish remaining, smooth
patina on the balance, some minor marks and scratches,
and fairly minimal overall wear. The wood is fine and has
beautiful figure, some scattered minor dings and scratches,
some stabilized cracks and knots in the wrist, and minor chip on the
right side of the forend cap. The cocking mechanism and trigger are
mechanically fine. The cylinder must be manually rotated.

Scarce Roper Sporting
Arms Co. Revolving Rifle - Serial no. 333, 41 cal., 28 1/8 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut stock. This is a scarce example of a .41 caliber six-shot revolving rifle manufactured between 1869 to 1876 by the Roper Sporting Arms
Company of Hartford, Connecticut. These rare Roper rifles are encountered with far less frequency today than the Roper shotguns based on the same design.
It features a six-shot revolving carrier enclosed in the frame, a bolt connected to the hammer, a Beach combination front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight,
a folding notch and ladder rear sight on the frame just ahead of the hammer, “ROPER SPORTING ARMS CO./HARTFORD, CONN./PAT. APR. 10. 1866. JULY 14. 1868.”
marked on the hinged loading gate, smooth forearm with pewter end caps, and smooth buttstock with an iron rifle buttplate. The bottom of the barrel, frame, and inside of the forearm are
all stamped “333.” The bottom of the barrel is also marked “267.” The bolt is marked “470.”
CONDITION: Very good with 25% original blue finish remaining on the barrel, traces of original case colors, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, and mild overall wear. The rear sight elevator is
absent. The wood is also fine and has some attractive figure and grain, smooth oiled finish with some darker areas, and mild scratches and dings. The action is currently locked up.
