Outstanding Colt Second
Model Single Shot Derringer
Attributed as Formerly Part of
the Colt Company Collection -
Serial no. 6946, 41 RF cal., 2 1/2 inch irregular bbl., nickel finish, walnut grips. One of
approximately 9,000 manufactured from 1870 to 1890. It has the standard two-line address and “No2” model marking on the
top barrel flat flanked by Maltese crosses. There are flourishes of factory floral scroll engraving on
the sides of the frame and the back strap. The matching serial number is marked on the butt and on the bottom of the barrel. There is a “C” marked on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger. It is fitted with blade and
hammer notch sights, and a pair of checkered walnut grips serial number in ink inside both panels. An
included letter from firearms expert Arnold
M. Chernoff states that this derringer was originally acquired by him from the Museum
of Connecticut History in Hartford, which at one time housed some of the firearms of the Colt Factory Collection, including this example, which is listed
by serial number on an included page of firearms attributed to that collection. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 98% plus of the original nickel finish with some scattere
that have the matching

Presentation Cased Engraved Colt New Line .22 Etched Panel Revolver with Pearl Grips and Factory Letter as Pictured in “The Book of Colt Engraving Volume I” by R.L. Wilson -
Serial no. 37793, 22 RF cal., 2 1/4 inch slab sided bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips. Manufactured in 1876, the top of the barrel marked with the standard two-line Colt address, patent marking on the bottom, and the left of
the barrel with the desirable etched panel
marked “COLT NEW 22”. The

is marked on the butt. The frame, cylinder, and barrel have period, likely retailer, floral scroll and zig-zag line engraving that is cut through the finish. It is fitted with a pair of
smooth pearl grips. This specific revolver is pictured on p. 404 of “The Colt Engraving Book Volume I” by R.L. Wilson. The included factory letter lists shipment to B. Kittredge & Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio. Includes a leather wrapped presentation case, cleaning rod, and a few .22 RF cartridges. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% of the period retailer applied nickel finish, crisp engraving with some of the brass frame visible where the engraving was cut, and a crisp etched panel. The attractive grips are excellent with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some mild wear. Provenance: The George S. Lewis Jr. Collection.
