Exceptional Merwin, Hulbert & Co.
Large Frame Double Action Revolver - Serial no.
7792, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hard
rubber grips. This Merwin, Hulbert & Co. large frame, double
action revolver has a top strap, round barrel, fluted cylinder,
and bird’s head butt and was manufactured in the 1880s by Hopkins
& Allen. The revolver has a full nickel plated finish with casehardened
hammer, trigger, and trigger guard. The barrel has an integral half-moon
front sight, and the top strap has a sighting groove. The top of the barrel has the
standard Merwin, Hulbert & Co. address, and the Hopkins & Allen address is on the left. The left
side of the frame under the cylinder is marked “CALIBRE/WINCHESTER” followed by “1873”. The
matching assembly number “5372” is on the barrel lug, rear face of the cylinder, inside the right grip,
and left of the grip frame. The serial number is marked on the right of the grip frame.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original nickel finish and 75% of the vibrant original case colors with some light handling marks and small patches of light flaking scattered throughout. The grips are also excellent with some scattered light blemishes in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500

E. Remington & Sons Model 1875
Single Action Army Revolver - Serial no. 588, 44
WCF cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, walnut grips.
These revolvers were manufactured c. 1875-1889. The barrel has
a replacement front sight that appears to have been made from a
penny and “E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, N.Y. U.S.A” marked on top.
“44” is marked on the left side of the frame at the breech. The inside of the right
grip is carved with “JD” and a “J” is carved on the outside. The loading gate has “16” and “588.”
“588” is also repeated on the trigger guard and under the left grip. The revolver is missing the
front half of the cylinder pin.
CONDITION: Fine with 80% original nickel plating, minor oxidation, and general mild overall
wear. The slightly undersize, re-oiled grips are very good and have period carved initials, light scratches and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.

Frame Double Action Revolver with
Pearl Grips - Serial no. 3126, 38 CF cal., 3 1/2 inch solid
rib bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips. Manufactured in the
1880s with total production estimated at a few thousand.
Adding to the rarity of this revolver is the factory engraving which
consists of scrollwork and floral patterns with a doe panel scene
on the left side plate. Matching serial numbers are found on the
grip frame, rear face of the cylinder, and barrel lug. It has the two-line address/patent dates marking on the rib, “38 CAL” on the left side of the frame. It is fitted with a pair of smooth pearl grips.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the
original nickel finish with some scattered patches
of light flaking revealing mostly a smooth brown
patina, a few patches of light pitting, and crisp
engraving overall. The grips are fine with
a few hairline age cracks and a few
scattered light handling marks.
Mechanically excellent.

& Co. Open Top Pocket
Army Single Action
Revolver - Serial no. 3086,
44-40 WCF cal., 3 1/4 inch round
bbl., nickel finish, hard rubber grips. This revolver was
manufactured in the 1870s and 1880s by Hopkins &
Allen for Merwin, Hulbert & Co. It is a desirable “Pocket
Army” variant without a top strap based on their large
frame single action “Army Revolver.” The Hopkins & Allen address and
patent marking is in two lines on the left side of the barrel. The left side
of the frame has “CALIBRE/WINCHESTER” followed by “1873”, and the right
side has the two-line Merwin, Hulbert & Co. address. The barrel has a round blade front sight, and an integral notch rear sight is part of the recoil shield. The cylinder has the oval “scooped” flutes. The assembly numbers throughout match, and the serial number is marked on the right side of the bird’s head grip frame.
CONDITION: Very fine with 90% plus of the original nickel plating, and original case colors remain
visible on the hammer and trigger guard. There are groups of strike marks and scratches throughout, and the front sight has been filed down approximately half way. The grips are also very fine and have crisp checkering, a few scratches, and lightly aged tones. Mechanically fine.

Scarce Hopkins & Allen Army Model
XL No. 8 Single Action Revolver - Serial no. 168, 44 RF
cal., 6 3/4 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hard rubber grips.
Only several hundred of these scarce revolvers are estimated
to have been manufactured from the late 1870s to early 1880s in several
variations. The top strap is stamped with the two-line address/patent
dates marking along with “XL NO.8”. Matching serial numbers are on the
right side of the grip frame, right grip panel, and barrel. The XL Army and Navy are
often considered to be the finest quality handguns made by Hopkins and Allen and would have been serviceable military sidearms though no government contracts are known.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 75% plus original nickel finish with scattered handling marks and some flaking. Grips are very fine with some patches of softened checkering.
Mechanically excellent.

Merwin, Hulbert & Co. 1st Type Large Frame Single
Action Revolver - Serial no. 3648, 44 cal., 7 inch round
bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured from
1876 to the 1880s, these large frame single action revolvers were
also known as the “Army Revolver.” This early production 1st model 1st
type example has an open top frame, scooped cylinder flutes, integral
front sight, round hammer and square butt with lanyard swivel. The revolver lacks a caliber marking. The barrel has the standard Merwin, Hulbert & Co. and Hopkins & Allen markings. The serial number is found on the butt, and the assembly number “1608” is found on the left side of the grip frame, both grip panels, rear cylinder face, arbor pin, and barrel lug. Fitted with mottled hard rubber grips.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 97% of the professionally refurbished blue and vibrant case colors with a
few scattered areas of very light surface pitting visible beneath the finish. The markings remain well-defined. The grips are very good with mild wear and a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically fine.
