Fine Pair of
Engraved Mid-18th Century French Flintlock Horse Pistols with Unique
Snap Bayonets -A) French Horse Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 14 3/8 inch part octagon
bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This impressive pair of mid-18th century French pistols
feature border pattern and floral engravings on the lock and brass fittings, and an underfolding spring-
loaded snap bayonet with a spear head. The barrels are both unmarked, and the slightly “banana” profile
locks have border pattern engraving and a floral accent at the tails of the locks and are both marked with a small fleur-de-lis on the underside. An engraved brass crowned plaque is located on top of the wrists without any initials, with engraved floral sideplates. The stocks have tear drop carvings at the barrel tang, sideplate and lock.
CONDITION: Fine, with bright iron surfaces,
some scattered patches of minor
pitting, and distinct engraving. The
stock is also fine with scattered dents
and scratches, a few small chips,
a hairline crack inside the ramrod
channel, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent,

CONDITION: Fine, with bright iron surfaces, some scattered
patches of minor pitting, and distinct engraving. The
stock is also fine with scattered dents and scratches, a chipped section inside the front of the bayonet channel, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent, although the snap bayonet
occasionally does not catch.

Engraved W. Parker Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol with Blunderbuss Style Brass Barrels and Snap Bayonet - NSN, 50 cal., 4 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., brass/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The locks and left barrel are signed “W. PARKER,” and the right barrel is marked “LONDON.” The underside of the barrels have “WJ” and Birmingham proofs. The barrels and furniture are brass. The bores flare at the muzzle. A folding “snap bayonet” is fitted on the top of the barrels, and the latch/release is fitted on the standing breech. There is mainly floral pattern engraving throughout along with some burst and classical designs. The back shaped grip is checkered.
CONDITION: Fine with attractive aged patina on the brass, gray and brown patina and mild pitting on the iron, and general mild overall wear. The stock is very fine and has crisp checkering and scattered minor scratches and dings. The bayonet doesn’t firmly lock when opened; otherwise, the pistol is mechanically fine.
