Attractive Exhibition Quality Angelo Bee Signed Master Relief Panel Scene Engraved and Gold and Silver Inlaid
Winchester Model 42 Skeet Grade Slide Action Shotgun - Serial no. 21313, 410 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/silver/gold finish,
American walnut stock. This shotgun was originally manufactured
in 1937 and was subsequently master embellished by Angelo Bee. Bee was one of the premier outside custom engravers of Winchesters. His style focused on hunting scenes with intricate background images. He used yellow, rose, and white gold along with silver and platinum to give the scenes dimension and really bring them to life. The receiver is beautifully engraved in a deep sophisticated scroll and floral pattern with a punch dot background which flanks the panel scenes on the receiver and extends to the takedown ring, breech, and muzzle end of the barrel. The panel scenes on the sides of the frame have coin backgrounds, gold inlaid wire borders, gold accents, and silver figures. The scene on the right side depicts a woodland hunting scene with Diana with her bow drawn and her dog in pursuit. The panel scene on the left depicts Diana seated with her dog and their hunting prize, a dead hare, and is signed “ABEE” with a small bee on the bottom. The edges of the receiver, takedown ring, trigger guard, sight rail and a ring around the muzzle also feature gold wire inlay. The trigger and safety are gold washed. The Winchester “WP” proof and “SKEET” designation on the barrel are gold inlayed. The stock and forearm are high gloss extra fancy American walnut with fleur-de-lis checkering, a Winchester grip cap, and buttplate. Red bead front sight on the matte rib barrel with a 3 inch chamber. Jeweled follower and bolt. Length of pull approximately 14 3/8 inches. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as elaborately embellished by Angelo Bee with nearly all of the blue finish remaining on the barrel, showing only slight collector type handling marks with a larger scuff on the right side. The frame retains nearly all of the inlaid and blue finish exhibiting a few minimal handling marks. The gold remains bright, and the silver has attractive aged patina. The wood is exceptionally fine with crisp checkering. The engraving is sharp. Mechanically excellent. Overall an extraordinary, highly embellished Winchester Model 42 done by the hand of Master Engraver Angelo Bee. Estimate: 7,000 - 11,000
