Desirable Colt Burgess Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 1760, 44-40 WCF cal., 25 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Colt Burgess rifles and carbines were only available
from 1883 to around 1885. They were designed by Andrew Burgess who held 894 patents by the end
of his life. It has long been rumored that Colt and Winchester came to an agreement that Colt would exit the
lever action market and Winchester would not release a revolver. There seems to be little other reason for Colt to have discontinued
these fine repeating arms so quickly after they introduced them. The Burgess is arguably more advanced and refined than the Winchester
Model 1873. This is one of only 1,219 Colt Burgess rifles manufactured with a round barrel. The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight and an elevation
Scarce Colt Deluxe Model 1855 Percussion Revolving Shotgun - Serial no. 1024, 10 gauge, 33 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish,
checkered walnut stock. An estimated 600 of these shotguns were manufactured in 1860-1863 in 10 gauge, per page 201 of “The Book of Colt Firearms” by R.L.
Wilson, ranking them among the rarest Colt percussion firearms. In the days when most shotguns were single or double barrel, the five-shot Colt revolving shotguns
offered considerable firepower. The barrel is numbered “1024” on the bottom and has a small nickel-silver bead front sight and under-rib with the cleaning rod secured
in two ferrules and a walnut forearm with silver plated forend cap. The frame has “COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” marked in the sight groove on the top strap, the serial number on the bottom, a
casehardened hammer, and the patent marking on the left. It is fitted with an attractive scroll pattern trigger guard. The buttplate is matching serial numbered at the toe. The buttstock has multi-point checkering,
steel buttplate, and brass rod extension under the buttplate.
CONDITION: Very good, with overall mottled brown patina with the forend cap retaining some of its silver plating, mild pitting evident, two screws are missing from left side of frame and one screw absent from the upper part of the buttplate, and moderate overall wear. The wood is fine, with defined checkering on the wrist, hairline cracks around the tang, minor flaking, and surface scratches throughout. Functions but mechanically needs work, as
left side of the receiver directly above the Rampant Colt is inscribed “W M WORRELL” in a downward arch. No research on the aforementioned individual is available. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/patent dates and “32 Cal.” at the breech. The serial
number is on the lower tang. The barrel is fitted with a folding combination globe front and adjustable rear sporting sights. There is a long
range tang mounted peep sight. Mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a crescent
buttplate. Comes with a factory letter which states that no information could be found on the rifle.
CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 60% of the original blue finish with the balance a brown patina with a few small areas of minor pitting. The receiver retains 85% untouched original nickel plating with a smooth gray on the lower tang, some minor flaking and blistering. Most of the original nickel plating remains on the buttplate with some flaking. The wood is also very fine with a semi-circular chip visible on the upper right wrist at the frame juncture, a moderate gouge at the rear of the right wrist, and overall a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering on the excellent forearm. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line Hartford address/patent dates legend. The left side of the receiver is stamped with a Rampant Colt. The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The plain forearm and straight grip stock are walnut.
CONDITION: Very good, displaying all the authentic character of a lever action that spent a lifetime in a challenging environment, retaining traces of original blue finish in the protected areas strongest on the frame. The wood is very good with a divot on the forearm (left side) and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
