Manufactured from 1863 to
1865, around 6,000 of these
derringers were manufactured
by Moore’s Patent Firearms Co. The successor to
Moore, National Arms Company, was purchased by Colt Firearms
Company in 1870. Colt manufactured the Moore/National Firearms
Deringer as their “First Model Deringer”. This example of the Moore No.
1 Deringer has a silver plated finish and is decorated with the classic Nimschke broad scroll engraving on the barrel and frame in tandem with his signature large arrow engraving

Early Production “High
Hammer” Variant Colt Third
Model “Thuer” Derringer -
Serial no. 241, 41 RF cal., 2 1/2
inch round bbl., nickel finish, walnut grips. These
derringers were introduced in 1870 and totaled
around 48,000 produced. The top of the barrel has a
rounded blade front sight and “COLT” in large italic letters.
The hammer is the early production “high” variant and it has the raised
bolster on the forward bottom portion of the “bulbous” frame. The three-
digit serial number is stamped on the left of the grip frame under the grip
and “341” (likely a factory error) is hand marked inside each of the grips in ink.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 85% of the period retailer applied nickel finish, which shows a
slightly frosted appearance, and some scattered speckling of light flaking mostly revealing an attractively aged brass. The grips are good with some minor handling marks, a series of hand- cut grooves, and a minor chip absent from the butt of the left panel. The barrel lockup is slightly loose, otherwise mechanically fine.

Attractive Factory
Engraved Colt Open Top Pocket Spur
Trigger Revolver - Serial no. 44157, 22 RF cal., 2
3/8 inch round bbl., nickel finish, antique ivory grips.
Manufactured in 1874, the top of the barrel is marked
with the standard Colt two-line address flanked by Maltese
crosses. The frame, barrel, and cylinder have flourishes of factory, floral
scroll pattern engraving that covers approximately 50% of the surfaces. The
serial number is marked on the butt, on the bottom of the barrel lug, and
correctly in ink on the inside of each of the smooth antique ivory grips.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% of the original nickel finish with the balance having thinned, primarily on the frame, to a mellow, attractively aged brass. The engraving is crisp. The attractive grips are also very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and a few short hairline age cracks around the grip screws. Mechanically excellent.

features. The
serial number
appears
partially remarked. This revolver is one of approximately 4,000 manufactured from 1880-1886, as a continuation of the “house” revolver line, and part of Colt’s “New” line of revolvers. Included is a hardwood case with brass fittings and 40 Remington UMC .41 short cartridges.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 50% original blue finish with the balance a brown-grey patina and strong niter blue on the rear of the hammer. The grips are also fine and have browned slightly but maintain crisp checkering overall. Mechanically fine. The refinished, relined case is very good with some minor dings and scratches, a few dark patches, and strong varnish overall.

the barrel is marked with the
standard “MOORE’S PAT.F.A.Co.
BROOKLYN N.Y.” address. The barrel underside
has the “Feb. 24 1863” patent date and the serial number. It is fitted with a blade
front sight, hammer notch rear sight, and the grip areas and trigger are attractively checkered.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 90% plus of the untouched original silver plating which shows an attractive,
slightly aged patina, and a few scattered patches of minor flaking. The engraving and checkering are crisp overall. Mechanically excellent. An attractive example of the predecessor of Colt’s No. 1 derringer!

Engraved Colt
House Model Revolver - Serial no.
7866, 41 RF cal., 2 5/8 inch round bbl.,
blue/silver finish, hardwood grips. Manufactured
in 1875 and featuring the New York scroll and track
line engraving patterns seen on other House Model
revolvers. The barrel has a small blade front sight at
the muzzle and “+COLT’S HOUSE PISTOL/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.+” marked on top. The left side of the frame has “41 CAL” at the bottom, and “PAT SEP 19 1871” is in the sight groove on the top strap. It is numbered “7866” on the butt, bottom of the barrel, and handwritten in ink inside both grips. CONDITION: Fine, retains 40% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, and strong traces of
the original silver on the frame with the balance an attractively aged mellow brass, and crisp engraving overall. The grips are very fine with
a few scattered light handling marks and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent.

Trigger Pocket Revolver with Pearl Grips -
Serial no. 54140, 22 RF cal., 2 1/4 inch slab sided
bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips. Manufactured in 1877
with the standard two-line address on top of the barrel, “COLT NEW
22” on the left in an etched panel, and serial number on the butt. It
was engraved by a period retailer after being received from Colt. It
otherwise has standard features as well as a pair of very attractive
smooth pearl grips.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original nickel finish with the period retailer engraving cut through the finish and a few small patches of flaking. The grips are excellent with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
