with some minor silvering on the barrel edges and some age spotting on the lower left side of the magazine near the receiver. The barrel legend is legible and the serial number is sharp. The rear sight is complete and original to the rifle. The stock is in good overall condition with what appears to be saddle pommel wear on the right side and bottom associated with carrying the rifle on horseback. This is a very good original example of a rare Samuel Hoggson factory engraved Henry rifle. Provenance: The Joe Marlin Hilliard Collection.

CONDITION: Very good. The rifle engraving is all original with moderate handling wear. The brass receiver and buttplate have an attractive mellow patina; silver-plated finish is visible on the lower tang and in protected areas on the sides of the receiver.
