German Police
Rework Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol Rig
with Matching Number Holster and Two Matching Magazines - Serial
no. 4081u, 9 mm cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Devoid of
maker’s marks or date, this pistol is a 1930’s Mauser manufactured P.08 Luger
reworked for use by German police forces. (Collectors sometimes refer to this
as a Mauser 1933 “sneak” police rework). During the Weimar period, Simpson
& Company was the primary firm for this sort of work. Blade front and notch
rear sights, with a blank chamber, faint “Imperial eagle” proofs on the barrel,
extension and breechblock, and a faint “Droop-wing eagle” Waffenamt stamp
on the right side of the extension. A sear safety has been installed on the left
side of the extension, and a hole in the left side of the frame to accommodate
a now-absent magazine safety. Matching numbers are present on the barrel,
takedown latch, side plate, trigger, and rear toggle link. Two nickel finished alloy
base magazines are included; both bases are numbered “4081” to match the pistol,
with one marked “1” and the other marked “3” (instead of the “2” usually seen on a
spare police-issue magazine). The police-style holster is also numbered to match
the pistol, with “SCHAMBACH & CO/BERLIN/1934” on the back over a “sunburst” stamp, faint hand markings inside the flap, and a small takedown tool that has been numbered to match the pistol.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 90% plus of the arsenal blue, showing areas of brown patina, minor spotting, and mild edge wear and handling marks. The small components retain 75% of the straw colors, with the remainder turning a smooth gray, and bright niter blue is present on the sear spring. The grips are fine, with some mild dings and wear
on the left panel. The holster is good, with stitching lost from the hinge and
tool pouch, and mild scuffing and cracking overall. Mechanically excellent.

World War I 1916 Dated DWM Model 1914
Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no.
463b, 9 mm Luger cal., 8 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut checkered grips. This is a fine example of a mid-production
WWI Imperial German Army Artillery Luger as manufactured by DWM
in 1916. These were a standard WWI issue Luger, with the 1916 dated
chamber being a very difficult example to obtain as they usually saw
heavy use in WWI with most rebuilt after the war. These Lugers have the
distinctive 8 inch barrel with the large tangent rear sight graduated from
1-8 (100-800 meters)
with the standard
front sight. The
chamber is dated
“1916” with the
“DWM” monogram
on the front toggle. The Luger has three “Crown/Script letter” proofs followed by the Imperial Eagle firing proof on the right side of the barrel extension. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (463) stamped on the frame, barrel and barrel extension with the last two digits of the serial number (63) on the on the various small parts. It has the standard “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” marked upper safety area and extractor and is fitted with its original checkered walnut grips, both correctly numbered “63” on the back sides. It comes with one WWI tin plated magazine with the wooden base that is stamped “9846/f/+/Crown proof”. It comes with a WWII Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 cleaning kit in its canvas pouch.
CONDITION: Very fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish remaining with edge and high spot wear overall, with blue loss on the side of the muzzle, the side plate and front edges of the frame rails. The smaller parts retain 40% of their straw colors overall. The grips are good overall with nice distinct checkering showing minor handling marks and the sides with light wear across the tops of the checkering, mixed with a couple very minor handling marks with a very small chip on the left upper, very rear edge or corner of the grip under the safety lever. It has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
Estimate: 2,250 - 3,750
