 LOT 1203
Excellent Individual Shipped First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Rare Documented Factory Checkered Wood Stocks and Factory Letter - Serial no. 352759, 38 WCF cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. This is a superb example of a first generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver made more desirable by wearing factory documented special order checkered walnut stocks. The accompanying factory letter for this revolver confirms the 5 1/2 inch barrel in .38-40 caliber, blue finish
and highly desirable “checkered wood” stocks. The letter also states the revolver was shipped to Lt. C.R. Campbell (address unavailable and no research on file) on February 22, 1929. This was a single gun shipment, and it is not often that we catalog first generation SAAs shipped to an individual. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top and “38 WCF” on the left side. The number “1” above a Colt triangle proof is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Matching serial numbers appear on the frame and trigger guard and back strap under the right grip panel. The rear cylinder face has the matching partial serial number “59.” The matching assembly number “535” is stamped on the loading gate and rear of the frame. The rare and highly sought after checkered diamond pattern grips have silver Rampant Colt medallions at the top.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue and casehardened finishes showing light cylinder rotation lines and some scattered mild high edge wear. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive individual shipped Colt SAA with desirable factory documented two piece walnut stocks.
Estimate: 11,000 - 16,000
