Exceptional Gianfranco Pedersoli Game Scene Engraved Double Signed Bertuzzi Venere Side Lock Ejector
Side by Side Shotgun with Case -
Serial no. 6052, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock.
A name synonymous with high quality and beauty, each Bertuzzi is a made to order arm, and only 40 to 50 guns were produced annually until 2009 when brothers, owners, and sole workforce, Elio and Remigio Bertuzzi retired,
thus ending four generations
of a family tradition of gun making. Blue steel, chopper lump barrels with chambers marked and measured at 2 3/4 inches, automatic ejectors, single bead sight on the concave hand matted rib, modified/full chokes, underside of barrels marked “NEW ENGLAND ARMS
CO./MASSACCHUSSETS (sic)
U.S.A.”, and standard Italian
proofs on the flats. Bright coin
finished receiver and locks with
bushed firing pins, sculpted fences, single non-selective trigger, and manual sliding tang safety. The receiver and locks feature fine, English style detailed scroll and floral bouquet engraving with a highly detailed bulino engraved sage grouse scene on the underside. The
grouse scene is signed “G.F. PEDERSOLI”, and the trigger plate is signed “G. Ferraglio” both of whom are Italian Master Engravers. The rolled trigger guard and tangs are engraved to match. Highly attractive, well figured checkered walnut straight
grip stock and splinter forearm with engraved fittings, Anson
latch and checkered bare butt. With leather bound takedown case with Bertuzzi interior label, nickel oiler, and
snap caps. Barrel and stock measurements
are: bore diameter at 9 inches from
breech .729/.729; choke constriction .018/.040; minimum wall thickness .030/.028; drop at comb 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/8 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches.
CONDITION: Excellent with 99%
original bright blue finish on the
barrels, some light handling marks,
and some faint spotting on the
trigger guard. The scroll engraving
is crisp, and the game scene highly
detailed. The wood is also excellent with fine, striped
figure, sharp checkering, and some small dings. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with some exterior dings and scuffs and light patina on the fittings. An exceptionally fine example of true “boutique” gun making.
Estimate: 14,000 - 20,000
