The partial serial number “6395” is stamped on the side of the cylinder. The revolver was not disassembled to examine the partial serial number stamped on the barrel underneath the ejector housing due to a tight screw. The grip has a script letter cartouche on each side as well as the date “1885” on the left side. Kopec highlights
the outstanding condition of the grip in his letter: “The grips of this revolver remain “Text-book” and very beautiful to behold! The Inspector’s cartouches remain in ‘as new’ condition.” See lot 623 for an exact replica, including proof marks and serial number, of this Cavalry Model made by US Fire Arms Manufacturing Co.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. The barrel and ejector rod housing retain 90% plus bright original high polish blue finish with a series of handling marks on the underside. The grips straps retain 85% original blue and the cylinder retains 60% original blue. 60% original case colors remain with surface cleaning on the left front area of the frame and the brightest colors at the rear areas of the frame. As pointed out by Kopec, the excellent grip is in “as new” condition showing a few minor handling marks, nearly all original finish remaining, and crisp date and cartouches. Mechanically excellent. The holster
is very good with extensive finish flaking and overall tight stitching. A high condition David F. Clark inspected U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army Revolver with holster that will be a welcomed addition to any Colt SAA or U.S. military arms collection. Estimate: 25,000 - 40,000
