Pair of Ornate Silver Mounted, Relief Chiseled and Raised Relief Carved Flintlock Pistols -A) Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 65 cal., 10 1/8 inch
round bbl., bright/gold/silver
finish, maple stock. These pistols likely originate or were made for the Mediterranean trade in the 19th
century, likely for high ranking individuals such as chieftains. The barrels have mouth shaped muzzle designs and floral and bestial designs along the length on top with gilt backgrounds. The silver or silver
plated furniture with mainly floral patterns. The locks have markings in an unknown script
as well as detailed chiseling in mask,
scroll, beast, and floral patterns. The frizzen to pan fit is poor on both pistols.
The stocks have relief carved borders, scrollwork, and accents. Both have short ramrods with carved bone tips that coordinate with the carved bone
forend tips. CONDITION: Very good with gray and brown patina and patches of gold and verdigris on the barrel, silver-gray and brown patina on the lock, some mild pitting, aged patina on the furniture, distinct patterns throughout, some chips and slivers on the stock, filler at the toe, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically needs work. B) Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 65 cal., 10 1/8 inch round bbl., bright/gold/silver finish, maple stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Very good with gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel, some areas of darker patina in the backgrounds such as on the tail of the lock, patches of gold and verdigris in the backgrounds of the barrel, aged patina on the furniture, distinct deisngs throughout, some chipping and filler at the forend tip and toe, some flakes in the wood, chips at the nose and tail of the lock, and moderate overall wear.     Ornate Pair of Relief Chiseled, Engraved, and Carved Flintlock Holster Pistols by M. Delince of Liege -A) Delince Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 13 5/8 inch round bbl., bright
finish, walnut stock. This pair of holster/horse pistols from c. 1730 by M. Delince of Liege have smoothbore barrels with chiseled foliate designs, rounded blade front sights, sighting flats, dished rear sights on the tangs, and incised floral scroll, bird, and bestial mask designs. The “banana” profile locks have beveled edges, “M*DELINCE” signed at the bottom in the center,
do borders, chiseled foliate designs on the tails, incised scroll patterns with disgorging human masks, and nice filework on the frizzens and frizzen springs. The furniture is all iron and features coordinating case, chiseled, engraved, and filework patterns, including grotesque masks on the pommel studs. The full-length stocks have
nicely shaped molding, flats, raised relief carved floral patterns. The first pistol has an “HL/31” marked tag pinned on the right side of the wrist and “ME 8/2119” in black marker on the underside of the frizzen spring.
CONDITION: Very good with silver-gray patina on the polished metal, some light oxidation, and mild overall wear. The sanded and refinished stock is good and has distinct carving, some faint cracks, general minor scratches and dings, a small split in the forend tip on the left, and some stripes in the wrist. Mechanically fine. B) Delince Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 13 5/8
inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. See “A.”“HL/28” tag on the left. CONDITION: Very good with mostly silver-gray patina on the bright polished metal along with some light oxidation, general mild overall wear, distinct designs, and somewhat
darker patina on the lock. The sanded refinished stock is good and has some small slivers bsent from the edges, some finished stripes in the wrist, general mild dings and scratches,
faint split in the forend tip on the left, and distinct carving. Mechanically fine.
