The grip features a relief carved long horn steer
head or ox on the right side. The revolver features
the distinctive “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” etched
panel on the left side of the barrel, “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. Co
HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” on the top of the barrel, “44” on the underside
of the barrel, “44. CF.” on the left side of the trigger guard, the three-line
patent marking on the left side of the frame, assembly number “1077” on
the loading gate, the matching partial serial number “3073” on the side
of the cylinder, and the matching serial number “53073” on the frame,
trigger guard, and back strap.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with crisp engraving, an extraordinarily
distinct etched panel, strong original blue on the screws and cylinder
pin, 85% plus untouched original nickel plating, small areas of loss
mainly on the cylinder and hammer, small spots of isolated slight pitting,
and generally very minimal overall wear mostly from age and handling.
The highly attractive grip is very fine and has attractive aged patina,
age lines, distinct grain, and distinct carving. Mechanically excellent.
Talk about a stunner! You simply do not find factory engraved Colt
Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army revolvers from the 1880s in this
extraordinary condition let alone with beautiful engraving and carving.
