Antique Hunting and Arms Engraving and Designs Prints - 1) A framed print by
Johannes Stradanus (1523-1605) printed in the shop of Philips Galle (1537-1612) of a
fowling scene depicting hunters with matchlocks and dogs. The frame measures 15 1/2
x 18 1/8 inches. 2) Ten matted prints of firearms engraving and designs, including the
front plate listing the prints by German engraver Johann Christoph Weigel (published
c. 1690-1710). The size of each including the matting is 12 x 18 inches. 3) Eight prints
(disbound) of flintlock firearms designs, including the front plate indicating the
prints were published in 1692 by Pierre Schenk (Peter Schenk the Elder, 1660-1711).
The prints measure 8 x 12 inches. 4) Ten 15 1/2 x 9 3/4 inch pages from a book of
prints of ancient weapon designs by Jacques-Raymond Lucotte (1733-1804) plus a
contents page. These appear to come from the famous “Encyclopedie” of Diderot and
d’Alembert.
CONDITION: The framed print is very fine with distinct image and minor wear, and
the frame has mild wear. The other prints and pages are all fine or better with distinct
images and age and storage wear, including light staining and some pencil markings.

LOT 1260
Ornate Wire Inlaid Wheellock Rifle with the
Coat of Arms of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen - NSN, 28
bore/.54 cal., 33 3/4 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut
stock. This c. 1670 wheellock rifle features a swamped octagonal
barrel with blade and notch sights and light engraving towards the
breech. The lock has a brass wheel cover and brass dog spring stirrup with a
putto design. The stock features molding along the forend, raised relief foliate carving, and inlay wire and pin
designs. The cheekpiece inlay is engraved with the arms of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Though unmarked, the rifle is
possibly by Hans Heller. It came from the famous collection of the Dukes of Saxe-Weimar at Schloss Ettersburg and was sold
again on June 24, 1963, at Gallerie Fischer in a sale that included pieces from the collections of William Randolph Hearst
and Joe Kindig. Includes a long tompion.
CONDITION: Very good overall with silver-gray patina, minor pitting, faded engraving on the barrel, distinct
engraved coat of arms, repairs in the forend and wrist, a few minor cracks, distinct carving, some worm holes, and
mild wear. The lock is not tested. The set triggers function.
