World War II U.S. Auto-Ordnance/Savage M1A1 Thompson
Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA C&R Fully Transferable
Machine Gun - Serial no. 745319, 45 ACP cal., 10 1/2 inch round
bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. Introduced in 1942, the M1A1
was the final wartime revision of the Thompson Submachine Gun.
The M1A1 replaced the articulated firing pin in the bolt with a
fixed pin on the bolt face, which by that point had become the
de-facto standard for SMG bolt design. While in theory rendered
obsolete by the M3/M3A1 “Grease Gun”, the M1A1 continued in
service through the end of World War II and into Korea. Blade front
sight on the unribbed barrel and a “J” marked fixed peep rear sight
with protective wings on the “S” and “U.S./PROPERTY” marked
receiver, which also has “GEG” and “FJA” inspector marks on the left
side between the breech and magazine well. The trigger housing
is numbered “644642”, with simplified control levers. Internally,
the receiver is equipped with an “S” marked bolt, spring guide,
charging handle and buffer. Fitted with a grooved horizontal
forearm, pistol grip, and a fixed buttstock with a smooth steel
buttplate. Included with the lot is one extra magazine.
CONDITION: Very fine overall as refinished and assembled, with
95% plus parkerized finish, showing some minor pitting, dings,
and handling marks. The stock is lightly sanded, with light dings
and scratches. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a
National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is
registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a “Curios or Relic” as
defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the
provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
