LOT 1467
A) Ivo Fabbri Over/Under Shotgun - Serial no. E831, 12 gauge,
28 inch vent rib bbl., blued/brushed bright finish, walnut stock. Ivo
Fabbri began his illustrious career in fine firearms alongside another
of the most highly regarded names in the business, Daniele Perazzi,
and together they built some incredible pieces. After the two
partners went their separate ways, Perazzi went on to build what are
arguably the highest quality sporting guns in the world, while Fabbri
pursued his dream to build the finest guns in the world. While many
would argue that he was able to achieve that goal, there is no doubt
that Fabbri stands proudly among the best in the world, with this
exceptional pair being a testament to his success towards that end.
Fabbri only builds some 30 guns per year, each being hand crafted
from the ground up by some of Italy’s finest craftsmen, as such, pairs
such as this do not often come up for sale to the public and have a
many years long wait-list for anyone wanting to order one from the
makers themselves.
Each gun in the pair was built with blued bifurcated lump barrels
featuring a single nickeled bead sight on the matted vent rib which
is marked with a gold “1” or “2” at the base beneath a gold star. The
barrels of each gun are marked “IVO FABBRI - BRESCIA” and “VACUUM
ARC REMELTING STEEL” on the left and right sides of the upper barrel
near the breech, Italian proof marks on the flat dated 1997, and light
scroll engraving at the breech and continuing down the barrel wings.
Both guns also feature 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors.
The barrels of each gun are fitted to an absolutely stunning brushed
bright finished pinless sidelock action which displays outstanding
photo-realistic bulino engraving carried out by Italian Master
Engraver Manrico Torcoli. Gun “1” displays a reposed nude woman
laying on a bed of flowers along with a pair of horses on the left side,
a standing nude woman looking over her shoulder at the observer
with a running horse on the underside, and a woman and horse in
a bed of flowers with a flight of swallows on the right. Gun number
“2” shows a nude woman in a fighting stance with a horse in a field
of grain on the left, a nude woman standing and facing the observer
with a horse on the underside, and a nude woman laying in a bed
of wheat stalks intertwined with a horse with sheaves of wheat on
the right. All of the women and animals are cut in excruciating detail
with each woman’s face being clearly distinct from one another. “IVO
FABBRI” is inlaid in gold on either lockplate and the underside of the
action on both guns in addition a gold “1” or “2” respectively at the
rear of the upper tang, the serial number in gold on the lower tang,
“TORCOLI inc. signed on the triggerplate, and matching stylized floral
pattern engraving on the action body around the scenes.
