They do not list this particular rifle by serial number as one of them, even though
its engraving is factory documented. The engraving on this rifle displays a large
panel scene on each side of the receiver, a bighorn sheep in mountains on the
left and a whitetail buck on a hillside on the right. Both scenes are surrounded
by Ulrich style tight floral scroll spirals and attractive use of negative space
borders. Matching scrollwork continues on the bottom and top of the receiver,
the takedown collar, breech of the barrel, and the forearm cap. The top flat of
the barrel has the standard two-line address, nickel steel marking on the upper
left flat, and the caliber marking on the top at the breech. The upper tang has
the three-line model and trademark, while the serial number is on the bottom
of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked “20815 XX”, with “20815”
repeated on the butt of the stock along with “94/T”, and inside the buttplate. It is
fitted with a special ordered, lightweight profile, part octagon barrel with Lyman
combination front sight on the ramped base typically seen on this barrel profile, as
well as a Lyman two-leaf rear sight. The Lyman “cup disc” peep sight is fitted on the
upper tang. It is mounted with a very finely figured, H-pattern checkered forearm
and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 90% of the original blue finish, 70% of the vibrant
original case colors, and 60% plus of the bright original nitre blue on the loading
gate, a professionally filled hole around the caliber marking, some scattered light
patches of freckling, and crisp engraving overall. The wood is fine with some
scattered minor dings and scratches, mostly well-defined checkering, and most
of the factory varnish. Mechanically excellent. An attractive example of an Ulrich
factory engraved Winchester Model 1894 rifle!
