Framed Print of L. A. Huffman’s “A Trail Herd, Powder River” - Ranching scenes in the late 1880s were commonly the subject of
world famous American West photographer L. A. Huffman. His photographs gave insight into the grueling and sometimes treacherous
life of Montana cattle ranchers as they moved the often massive herds in search of grazing land and watering holes. This photograph
shows just that, a large herd of cattle with stretching nearly as far as the eye can see from the prairie grazing land of the foreground back
into the distant hills with horseback mounted ranchers dotted throughout. The bottom of the photograph is marked in Huffman’s own
handwriting “#226 A Trail Herd, Powder River, Negative, Print and Copyright by LA Huffman Milestown Mont. 1886.” The print resides in a
black painted frame with silver painted interior border measuring 16 3/4 inches by 11 1/4 inches.
CONDITION: Excellent with a clear image. The frame is very fine with some light storage and handling marks.
Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
