Engraved Turnbull Manufacturing TAR-40 Semi-
Automatic Rifle, Serial Number “SEMPERFI-001” - Serial no. SEMPERFI-001, 308 cal., 16
inch round bbl., casehardened/black finish, walnut stock. Introduced in the 2010s, Turnbull Manufacturing’s TAR-40 takes the AR-10 rifle (specifically
as developed and refined by DPMS) and re-imagines it as a fine and fancy sporting arm in the vein of a well made vintage Winchester or Colt, a task the
Turnbull firm was very well equipped to execute. Manufactured without sights, with a ported flash hider on the DPMS 1-10 twist barrel, low profile gas system, and an
integrally forged ventilated picatinny rail on the upper receiver. The upper and lower both follow the core pattern of the AR-10 rifle, though using steel instead of aluminum
and being finished in vivid case colors, geometric engraving accents on the upper, and Turnbull’s markings on the left side of the lower, including the “Rampant Bull” logo,
address and “SEMPERFI-001” serial number. The bolt assembly is finished in matte black with a chrome lined carrier interior and firing pin, flat head retention pin, “D” marked
carrier and “3” marked bolt. The furniture is smooth fancy walnut, with a round handguard, grooved pistol grip and fixed buttstock with subtle ambidextrous cheekpieces and an unmarked solid recoil pad. Magazine absent.
CONDITION: Excellent, 98% original matte black and casehardened finish. The case colors are especially bright and vivid. A few minor handling marks are visible on the otherwise excellent walnut furniture. Mechanically excellent.
