Others estimate as many as 4,500 engraved First Generation Single Action Army revolvers, but that still accounts for only approximately 1.26%
of production based on a total of 357,859, per production figures on page 25 of “Blue Book Pocket Guide for Colt Dates of Manufacture” (2008)
by R.L. Wilson. The barrel has the two-line Hartford address on top and “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .357” on the left side. The frame has the
two-line patent dates on the left followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left side of the trigger guard has the triangular “VP” proof and “4”.
The back strap is factory checkered. Matching visible serial numbers on the frame and grip straps, and unnumbered cylinder with a small star
stamp on the front surface. Matching assembly number “628” on the loading gate and rear of the frame. Fitted with attractive correct factory
pearl grips with Rampant Colt medallions at the tops. An included letter addressed from Turnbull indicates this revolver was sent to them in
2022 for mechanical repairs to correct the timing, and they replaced the “bolt and hand,” with the letter further stating this revolver “is original,
unmolested condition” and shows Wilbur Glahn’s signature “C” coverage engraving as authenticated by Turnbull’s in-house engraver with 30
years experience. The hand and Bisley style hammer that were replaced are included.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 90% original blue finish, 90% vibrant original case colors, with some leading edge wear, and absolutely crisp
engraving. Grips are also excellent, slightly oversized, with highly attractive lustrous colors, minimal handling evidence, tight fitment, and distinct
edges. Mechanically excellent. This excellent Wilbur Glahn factory engraved Colt Single Action Army is a significant piece of American artistry!
